probably should have just called the river....he could've been defending K2 or something and just caught 2 pair.

When you check the turn, indicating no pair, and he still bets into you when either an A or K come on the river, it is time to just call. He's either full of it or he can beat your "obvious" AK.

Why check the turn? He hasn't shown anything and you just picked up 4 more outs. Besides you probably have the best hand.

I would be inclined to think "full of it." He had shown strength before the flop and on the flop, but then gave up on the turn. That gave it away. Now, his opponent might think the river raise is "full of it" and 3-bet him thinking an inferior hand was suddenly good. I would still just call though, so I guess what I just said doesn't really matter.
