What do you think about this article (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=676&ncid=676&e=3&u=/usatoday/20040413/ts_usatoday/familyslossofdaughterraisesreassignmentissue)?

The military allows siblings to avoid combat duty when their sibling dies, but should this be the case?

The US spent real money to train these servicewomen, should that go down the drain while they are still needed and capable of serving?

A non-combat position would work.

Since the military already has this policy, discussing it is kind of pointless. It isn't going to change.

You do have a point though, that if the Government provides training or benefits to you, spends money on you, you do owe something to society to pay us all back.

This is the foundation of the Welfare system reforms spearheaded by the GOP, and it has been successful.

At least we didn't do a Saving Private Ryan and send a whole bunch of people to go get 'em in the middle of a war zone.

it was originally that the last surviving young male member of a family couldnt go into battle. that was so the family name wouldnt be gone.

except for that if they enter the military for pay, they should have to go fight if needed. a mercenarys job is to kill if directed to.

i am against the draft except in case of the homeland being invaded.

by which time it would be too late.

The draft will never be brought back (at least not for defensive reasons). If it gets to a stage where America needs to enlist that sort of manpower either it or it's enemy will use nuclear weapons.
