View Full Version : Talked myself out of some bets with KK, I think

From a live $5/$10 game, loose and passive.

I think this was fairly weak and would like some comments.

Opponent has been at the table for just one full orbit.
2 Hands previously he limped UTG with QQ, flopped a set, bet
it, bet the turn, then when a second K came that also put
three flush cards on the board, checked it, hoping to get
in a check raise. It was checked around. That is *all*
I know about opponent.

Now the hand, suits are unimportant.
UTG limps, UTG+1 raises, folded to me, I 3-bet KK, opponent
4 bets in the SB, folded back to UTG+1 who calls. I call.
Flop is T,7,4. SB bets, UTG+1 calls. I call.
Turn is 3. SB bets, UTG+1 calls. I call.
River is 7. SB bets, UTG+1 folds. I call.

Opponent showed JJ, I won the pot. I felt weak after
that.

After being 4 bet I thought about raising the flop, then
decided against. Wanted to raise the turn, then
decided against. Knew I was just calling on the river.

Here are some reasons I didn't raise.
1) Not many people 4 bet preflop without Aces. I will,
but I've seldom seen anyone else do it, in my limited
experience.
2) Having watched him limp with QQ before then try to
play it tricky on the end (in what seemed an ill-conceived
ploy) I wasn't sure what he was up to.
3) Wasn't sure what to think about UTG+1 after calling
opponent's bets on the flop and turn as there was no
draw he could be making (logically at least).

When you have KK and somebody else has AA on a board like that, you're going to lose a bunch of chips, and that's all there is to it. If you don't, you played it wrong. I probably would have just jammed it on the flop, but I guess waiting until the turn to raise is ok. The problem is that there are cards that may kill your action (in this case, an A, Q, or K will make him slow way down).
