We arrive in AC about 4pm. Knowing that the line at borgata hotel check-in is likely to be 10 times as long as the wait lists in their poker room we decide to head straight over to the Taj. 5/10 wait list is about 10 players long but we get called in 10 minutes when a new table starts up. The table was great from the get go but my cards were not. Got dealt AKo twice and swung and missed with both. Mr. “hairy fingers guy who hasn’t showered in a week” beats me both times when his garbage hits on the river. He leaves the table soon after and I can breathe much easier.

So then I wait and wait and wait and finally get a playable hand. I get to see a flop from the BB with ATo. Flop came rainbow T high and I take down a small pot. There were 3 guys at our table who were there together and were great to play with both because they were funny as all hell and also because they were really really bad at poker. In between their raises with KXo they were entertaining me with stories about getting their butts kicked by their wives when they got home. Seems they were suppose to be home 5 hours ago. The booze was flowing for these 3 who were to my immediate right and I tried to take of advantage of this the best I could. I got a couple of playable hands but failed to connect. I find myself down a quick 17 BBs and go for a little walk. I wander through the casino and smile at all those playing negative EV games…. AHHHH…. my cards might have been bad but for some reason seeing people plop down greens and blacks at BJ and roulette made me feel a little better. I enjoy the 10 minutes of second hand smoke and then make my way back to the poker room.

I decide that to beat this game I was going to have to isolate these guys. I pick up 99 in MP and when one of them raised I made it 3 bets. My isolation play works and I win a decent pot. A few hands later I pull the same move with AQs… flop came with an ace and I take down another pot…. he seemed surprised his A3o didn’t win. The hand that got me back to even for this session was A8s in LP. Four limpers to me and I come along for the ride….SB completes and BB checks. Flop comes 842 with 2 in my soot and there is an EP bet. My three amigos all call and I reraise. Turn another 8….I bet and get 2 callers. River 4… Amigo #1 bets, Amigo #2 calls….I reraise and both call. One shows a 4 and the other mucks. Up .5 BBs I leave the table relieved. It was a nice turn around from the dismal start.

We check in at the Borg and after freshening up a bit I call down at 11pm and get my name on the 6/12 list. They tell me on the phone 1.5 hours so I head down there after 1 hours and see that they failed to add me to the list ….UGH. I ask kindly why I’m not on the list and they are not sure. To the back of the line I go. I grab a quick salad (I’m watching those pounds…I don’t like wearing internet poker pro sized shirts) and I get called in about 20 minutes when a new game starts. I quickly finish up my tasty salad and look for the new table. I ask the brush where the new 6/12 was and he instead prompts me to sit in on a table that’s already up a going. I’m not sure which table number it is but it was the one right at the bottom of the escalator…. the one that everyone watches and likes to ask questions to. Lots of spectators for our game and the occasional lady finds her way down from the club in some cute little outfit… FOCUS CUBS FOCUS!!!

This table was pretty tight except for the gentlemen on my left. Having just won $1000 in a slot tourney he was sitting at this table sharing his wealth. “Uncle Ron” was a great guy and a blast to play with. The more double Dewars and water he drank the more 43o looked like AA for him. He was rolling early….putting some classic beats on just about everyone at the table. At one point I think his stack was over $600 (it was hard to tell because his checks were all over the place) but he was nice enough to make sure that that money stayed at the table after he called it a night.

I kept watching the younger kid to the left of Uncle Dan try to take advantage of his position with mixed results. At one point it look as if this kid might bust and I was on my tippy toes ready to change seats but he managed to make a comeback. I was stuck to Uncle Dans right till he busted.

I took a quick pounding when I held AQ and the flop came Q8x rainbow. I bet, uncle Dan reraised and a LP made it 3 bets. I didn’t know what to make of the LP's reraise. I thought he just might have been putting the isolation on Dan but I wasn’t sure what he was holding. His play seemed pretty solid to that point so I just called. Well…. I turn my A and bet it….and Dan seemed to like it too because he reraised me and LP again made it 3 bets…I call and so does Dan. Turn blank….check check bet…call call. LP shows his set of 8s and I am hurting early. Thank you Dan for making that one expensive /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

A bit later I pick up bullets and open raise from EP…. uncle Dan smooth calls and the guy to his left makes it 3 bets….the BB caps it and 4 of us see the flop. Flop comes 3 baby spades and I'm holding the Ace J My only worry is that Uncle Dan has connected with those rags. BB bets…I raise, Dan folds L and LP reraises….BB folds, I put in my third bet and get called. Turn a spade for my nut flush J…. bet….call. River pairs the board…. I bet and he calls. He flashes the K of spades as he mucks. Great hand but it was all down hill from here. There were too many beats to mention and I watched as Uncle Dan gave my chips away to the rest of the table. Danny boy leaves and a new guys take his seat. One orbit later I call it a night when the new guy beats me twice in a row with AQo. First time he rivered his Q when I held 88 and the second time he had my KQ outkicked when the Q flopped. Oh well. Down 16 BBs for this session and 15.5 for the day I call it a night. I take a chug of the import which I order on the last orbit and head back upstairs. On the way through the casino I admire the many great views. For some reason my eyes never focused on anything more then four and a half feet from the ground. I love this place /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

To be continued... Maybe
