3-bet the flop, bet the turn?

I've heard it stated before something like "if you 3-bet the flop, *always* bet the turn."
Do I have this right? In what situtation does this apply?
Any advice for a novice would help..

There are very few "always" in poker. In general, if your hand is strong enough to 3 bet the flop, it's probably going to be good enough to bet the turn. Of course there are situations where it wouldn't apply. Another poker question where "it depends."
