I get JJ in SB at UB 3/6 kill table. No reads on the players as, it's my second hand.

UTG limps, folds to me, I raise, BB drops, UTG calls.

Flop 242r

I bet, he calls

Turn: 4[242]. I bet, he calls.

River, 8[4242] no flush possible. I bet, he raises, I 3-bet, he calls.

How's my play?

I think I would just call the river raise. It looks like a slowplayed 2 to me. I don't think you are ahead enough to make the 3-bet profitable.

I like the river 3-bet even if you lose the hand. You are ahead of alot of hands here and he could easily be betting an A8, TT, 99, etc.

He could also be a little tricky, and wait until the river to pop the turned boat...but if that were the case he would have re-raised you on the river. He's certainly not putting you on 4s or 2s. So either he has it and is reserving the raise until the river when you are committed and just calls (with a 2 rather than a 4), or he somehow thinks his 8x is good (although I can't imagine what he'd call UTG other than 88, I hear UB is relatively tight...maybe this guy doesnt fit the bill), or he is stone cold bluffing in hopes you'll fold.

Either way, I like the aggression on the river 3-bet.

I think the river 3-bet is un-necessary.

I don't like the river 3-bet. You win 0 or 1 extra bet when you have the best hand and lose 2 when you don't. You need to have the best hand more than 70% of the time.

I thnk an 8, A or middling pocket pair is more than twice as likely as a 2 or 4 here given the UTG limp and standard tight preflop play at UB, and the post flop play is also consistent with the typical extra postflop aggression I find at UB as well. I think the 8, A or middle pair pays off here, and an 8 or middle pair may think they are ahead against an A on this double paired board.

You really have to be sure to 3-bet. I don't think you'll be good here often of enough to do so. Often you'll lose 2 instead of gaining 1.

If you think the player wouldn't have a 2 or 4 because of the tight play on UB, why on earth would you think he would be hanging around with an 8?

And lose 2 I did.

The guy showed 27, and I wasn't thrilled.

I really don't like the river 3 bet. I don't think you're going to win enough for this to be correct unless you have an excellent read.
