This player has been a consistent winner when I have played against him. I put him on JJ-KK, I did not think it was possible for him to play a 3 from such early position. He usually plays pretty tight. So, could I have ever gotten away from this hand, or is losing it all inevitable?
Results in white below:
SB shows Ac 3c (three of a kind, threes).
Hero shows Ah Ad (two pair, aces and threes).
Outcome: SB wins $288.50.

If your opponent is a reasonable player, I think you can strongly consider folding when you get check-raised on the turn.

If he is a solid player then I agree you have to fold check raise. Given the action he has three possible hands at that point and you lose to all of them. If he is solid as you say you have to think he has a pocket pair either threes (for quads), nines, or tens (for a boat).

Again, if he is good your hand is fairly obvious to him. He showed on the turn he could beat an overpair. Drop it.
