Just yesterday when I was at a gas station, I saw an incident that really caught me off guard. There was a young man pumping gas, who seemed not to understand how to work the "hi-tech" nozzle, and an older gentleman waiting in his car behind him since the station was fairly packed. After waiting for some time the older man went to another pump, went inside the gas station, and came back out. From my vantage point I could see the young man start pulling off, and not paying too much attention to his surroundings, unfortunatly, the old man happened to be walking right in front of the young mans car when he started to accelerate. The young man hit the breaks and a shouting match ensued. the old man said "[censored] idiot takes all day at the pump now wants to run me down". The young man says "Your a really good person, I'm sure your parents are proud, YOU PIECE OF [censored]."

True story that happened just the other day, those guys were a couple of champions.

That's a polite discussion by L.A. standards - the capital of road rage.

Yea dude... no guns or weapons or anything. For L.A. standards that's as polite as it gets.

Yeah, and . . .?

SOP for L.A., as the others have indicated.

I'm second in line to make a left turn. The car in front of me doesn't move out into the intersection. I give her a tap on the horn. She doesn't move. I give another tap. She puts her car into park, gets out, and walks back to my car. This is 5:00, there are about a gazillion cars behind me waiting to make the left. I open my window. She asks me what I would like her to do. I swallow my first answer and say please move out to make the left. She says she has a baby in the car, she's not taking any chances and angrily strides back to the car. Of course we've now all missed the signal.

She wasn't taking any chances making a left turn properly, but she didn't feel any risk in leaving her baby in the car unattended to give me an earful.

About 6 months ago im driving to work down I635 in dallas tx heading to work. My exit ramp has construction going on so the usual 2 lanes is down to 1 so we are backed up for about 1/4 mile on the highway exiting. Several cars pass the line and force thier way in right at the ramp where the 2nd land ends. The BMW in front of me decides not to let a guy in an H2 cut in front of him. The guy in the H2 drives onto the shoulder instead of stopping, gets out, and then runs up and punched the BMWs driver side widow hard! Im thinking you lucky bastard! Since it has been determined in court that if someone attacks you on the highway you can legally shoot them and conceiled hand guns are legal in Texas with a permit.

Andy,

Or, perhaps she did remove the baby from the car.

One time a similar incident happened to me. I'm waiting to make a left across fairly heavy traffic, and the guy behind me keeps blowing his horn and gesticulating madly. For some reason, instead of my usual response, I got out of the car to see what the problem was. I assumed he could see that I just couldn't move. He was trying to inform me that my extra set of keys were in the trunk lock.

Pet Peeve - re Left-Hand turns at a traffic light:

I can't stand it when I am second in line and the car in front will not pull into the intersection while waiting for the oncoming traffic to clear. Instead, the car waits behind the line and turns on the yellow. As the second car in line, I cannot turn on the yellow as I am not in the intersection on time.

If he can go around you to the left, he shouldn't flash lights. But he should never have to go to your right. I hope the depths of hell are reserved for those who drive along in the left lane and don't understand they need to get over. I hate having to either pass on the right or flash lights, etc.... It is my absolute human right on an interstate to set the cruise control and not have to tap my brake or steer too much. I have cigars to smoke, 100 channels of satellite radio, CDs and a cell phone to deal with. I shouldn't have to worry about an evil person in the left lane going 75.2 MPH. Get outta my way I say. And people who pass trucks slowly, just staying next to them for like a mile drive me nuts. I believe state cops should only write tickets for improper use of the passing lane and driving too slowly for conditions. A few beat downs and pepper sprayings of violators by the cops might be good too. If a coot with a 5th wheel hasn't learned that the left lane is the passing lane in his first 70 years of driving, how else can he be taught. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Dallas is a tough driving town. Bubba drives those big trucks and you got those double left turn thingies, where the first left turn is a u-turn and the second left turn is the real left turn.

Whatever happened with the lawsuit that the bigwig filed when he was injured trying to find his gate number on the signs that go into DFW?

I have not done worse than flash my lights since I was 17 or so. Although my wife might argue that I have approached somebody's bumper too close. I disagree, although I might have been closer than the gas station safety commercials suggest. I have not done any NASCAR bump passes on people, because they would probably lose control of their car and die. But a little tap maybe should be legal if you have flashed lights 5 times and honked once. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

J/K of course. I actually don't respond when people start going nuts or give me the finger or whatever. I do live in a state where everybody has a gun in the car tho, so I think everybody is on slightly better behavior.

Hey, I live in a city where everybody has a gun out of the car, and it doesn't help.

I agree. In Germany (where, in my opinion, reside the best citizen drivers in the world - along with Austria) you are only to pass on the left, and only the left. Otherwise, you are to stay in the right-hand lane. Of course, if you are going 120+ m.p.h. you generally stay in the left lane, which is a de-facto "fast" lane. When you are overtaking another care in the "fast" lane, that car is the move for you.

In the U.S. this don't happen...many feel entitled to BE in the fast lane and still go the speed limit - that is bullshit. Many do it (I CAN JUST TELL, DAMMIT) just to prove a point and make the speedsters suffer. Nevertheless, despite posted speed limits, you are still supposed to keep to the right for faster traffic.

If you go into traffic and the light changes in New York, because it is so heavy, the car out in the intersection is "caught in the box". Subject to a fine and a lot of angry New Yorkers honking at you.

I agree about the slowpokes in the passing lane. This is a big problem. And the people that take 5 miles to pass a Big Truck are really irksome (I will start a controversy by saying the majority are women). They have no sense; they are scared to pass so they spent 30 minutes doing so. These people should be blown off the road and if they are still alive, executed on the spot and their vehicles set on fire. I have no patience for them.

I have been in a rage since I was 15 years old and do not intend to let old age slow me down. I always carry my 45 auto in my truck ready to dispense justice to the morons that I must share the road with. My shotgun, loaded with buckshot, will soon be joining me on all ventures onto the roadways. I wish I owned a tank.

Manners on the roadways are for wimps. It’s either get out of my fuckin way, or DEATH – that’s my motto and how I have always driven. Sue me.

I’ll write about my altercations on the roadways at a later time – I’m off to the casino.

Well, sure...but that is not what I am talking about here. Of course, you are to NEVER block the intersection. That rule is primary.

I don't understand what the big rush is. People are always in a hurry to get somewhere. Where are all you people going that you can't take an extra five minutes to get there. Slow down and smell the roses. Relax. Talk to people. Be late for something. It won't kill you.

LOL. I kind of agree. I too have been in a rage since childhood, but I have to live on this godforsaken planet with a bunch of idiots, so I temper my actions to fall within societal limits. But I always say about the slow driovers out there, "You drive slow, you think slow." And I think this is true. People who drive slow are insufferable morons really. I drive slower than I would like. I mean, I wouldn't be reckless, but I don't see why I cant go 120 on clear roads. 120 in town would be dangerous. And maybe on the 2 lane to las vegas I'd only go 90 in spots. I think the limit should be how hard I want to push my car. So I don't think I'd drive much over 100 most of the time.

Unreal.

This was in Barstow, CA, and I was returning home from Vegas.

I am 100% certain I am the young man.

Yes, I still have problems using these bizarre California nozzles. I never can seem to get them to pump continuously.

No, I did not come close to running the man over. It is true that I may have started to pull out a little quickly, but I saw him and hit the brakes.

For the record, I am do not suffer from road rage and generally treat bad beats in the life the same as at the poker table. But what this old man said to me was completely unjustified. He needed to be checked.

Why the hell is SevenStuda at a gas station in Barstow? This is surreal.

you are all a bunch of nutcases. you seem to drive like maniacs just to get home real quick to put your fat asses on the couch 3 minutes sooner. listen to the music and enjoy life as it will be gone one day. remember your relatives got here on a boat at 3 miles per hour. maybe andy is right in that most of you shouldnt have weapons. you are unbalanced and bush should hold you without council.

Road rage is very common these days. Here's my own two favs, both true, both happened to me...

1. guy on highway cuts across THREE lanes to make a last minute exit. He cuts us off (my girlfriend at the time was driving) and we nearly crash. Then HE flips US off! My girlfriend, normally quiet and not easily roused, chases him off the highway in a rage. He then becomes quagmired in a traffic jam which is commonly found at the bottom of that exit. When he sees us pull up behind him, HE gets out of the car and comes at us! Well now it's not just him, not just my girlfriend, but ME who has the road rage. I get out of the truck with a large ratchet, approaching the "offendor" in a threatening manner. He then got BACK into his car and drove up on the curb to go around the traffic jam.

2. In walmart parking lot... walmart really seems to attract the redneck f*cks... I've come close to a physical altercation there three times... I'm going fishing, got the boat attached to the truck, and needed two grease fittings lubed on the steering. Being sunday, it's the only place for miles that is open. So I am parked by the auto section with the boat. I'm in the road, but the road is like six cars wide back there. People are going around me on both sides with plenty of room. Meanwhile my bro is inside trying to get the job on the queue. Well this redneck f*ck passes me and yells out the window something to the effect of "move your f*cking boat @#$%@#$%." Well I (very cordially) flip him the bird. He seems to pull away, but then I see him park in the rearview mirror. He comes at my truck yelling to move it now or he'll kick my ass. He's about 55-60 years old, no teeth, cowboy hat and boots, a typical redneck idiot (who shouldn't be allowed to breed). I am young, tall (6'1", 190 lbs) and in good shape, he's obviously way out of his league. That doesn't stop his dumb ass. I try to ignore him but he gets closer. I finally get out of the truck and grab a large crobar and ask him (very cordially of course) if he really wants a piece of me. I grabbed the crobar cuz i really did NOT want to fight (and be forced to kick his ass). Well sometimes you bluff and get called... he kept coming anyway! was he insane? Someone from walmart saw all this and stopped him, which was good cuz I would have had to drop the weapon and defend myself, which I did not want to do.

By the way the service manager refused to lube the grease fittings "because it's not a car." This despite the fact that a "lube only" costs more than purchasing a grease gun from walmart. Walmart really does suck. I took the long way to the lake and stopped at a service station along the way, who by the way lubed the two fittings for free. I tipped him $5 tho.
