Moneymaker article (http://www.pokerworks.com/general%20poker/moneymaker.htm)

The parts that I thought were interesting were his penchant for sports betting and his poor financial status prior to winning the WSOP.

I played with Chris last week. He was not only a very nice guy, he also was a pretty good player.

I have no doubt that both are true (that Chris is a nice guy and pretty good player).

It also seems pretty clear from that article that he's got a gambling problem. I mean, he goes into debt on sports gambling, and "fixes" it by changing to poker? Well... maybe. But, get him out in Vegas on a rush, and he's right back into sports gambling.

This is not a good sign.

a poker player with a gambling addiction is like a musician with an alcohol problem.

I'm sad to say the article doesn't surprise me in the least...any more then the laid off guy winning the lottery...

ah well.

"Moneymaker's heart leaped. He'd flopped a monster: two pair. He decided to play it off, checking to Farha. Farha, who had flopped a pair of jacks himself, bet $175,000.
Rubbing his chin, Moneymaker said quietly, "I'm going to raise $100,000."

This had to be a mistake, right? Isn't the minimum raise here another $175K to $350,000?

Hey Larry, I actually had the same thought, but I just decided it was a mistake by CNN. Didn't he actually raise to like 400K?
