Trip Reports are too long. Mine included.

DO go to Las Vegas when you can deduct it.

DON'T stay at the Imperial Palace if you can avoid it. It was the conference hotel and we had a very good rate. But it sucked. It has a different bad smell at every turn. It has so many elevators and escalators and dead ends that you feel like you are in a habitrail. The room was OK tho. There just aren't enough elevators, so it takes a long time to get up to the room or down to the casino, and you have to pack into the elevators with people who stay at the IP. Then you have to catch more broken escalators and elevators to get anywhere in the habitrail. Feh.

The PETA special at Delmonico was outstanding of course. Medium rare dead stuff is great there. Great place to go w/ friends.

If you are playing terrible make sure your good hands hold up and your draws get there or you will get killed. /images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Saw two nasty confrontations in the short walk back from the mirage to the IP with HDPW at 400 am. One little guy who looked somehow disabled was getting his ass kicked by his own friends. He appeared to be drunk and seemed developmentally disabled or something on top of that. He had no shirt. He'd get in a friend's face who was like 3 times bigger trying to pick a fight. His friend would let him talk smack for a minute while the other friends tried to calm things down, then drop the little guy. The little guy'd hit the pavement with a kind of weird sound.

Then get up and the big guy would drop him again with a really hard punch to the face. I mean the guy getting hit was like 4' 10" 80 pounds and the guy doing the hitting appeared to be an experienced fighter. Freaking bizarre, but there were like 6 of them and they seemed like they knew each other, so I wasn't going to be a hero or decent person or anything. Mighta been foreplay for all I know. Didn't seem like a real fight since the big guy would only hit him once per confrontation and didn't go put the boots to him or beat his skull into the pavement or anything. It was mostly surreal and the guy getting his ass kicked didn't seem too bothered by the whole affair. Then there was a confrontation between a lady who was about to kick a guy's ass. I think she may make her living on the street but I am not sure. We were just trying to get out of the way before guns or knives came out. Much unpleasantness in a 50 yard stretch of the strip on a fine sunday morning.

BTW the guy with no arms and legs who has his IP slot bucket for donations has been on that segment of the strip for over 20 years in all weather. Makes losing seem a little less important.

I echo your thoughts on the Imperial Palace. I ate a breakfast there at 2 in the morning that was unbelievable. BAD that is. Also you can't get around much in the place and you feel like a rat trapped in a maze.

They do have a car museum that is worth seeing, at least once anyway.

As for your other adventures, sounds rather typical. I have never been to Vegas without witnessing at least one bizarre incident and I have been to the City of Perpetual Hope and Sleaze at least 25 times in the last 10 years.

And yes, roasted animal flesh is the best. Make mine nice and bloody. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Good report, also trip reports from people who can write are never too long.

I always stay at the IP because I'm a poor college student and I like the location. I only spend about 5 hours there each day(5-10 AM) and I'm asleep so I don't mind. The price is right and I have grown fond of her over the years. I guess once I hit the real world I'll have to re-evaluate things but if you're young and cheap, the IP is simply the nuts.

An excellent description of the IP, but I have to disagree with your recommendation to avoid it. As far as price and location go, the only place that even comes close is the Flamingo. The other hotels in that area charge outrageous rates, especially since you're in Vegas and will hopefully be spending minimal time in your room. For people on any sort of budget, staying at the IP is a total no-brainer.

Also, it's possible to avoid the ten-minute wait at the elevators. There is another set of elevators on the opposite end of the hotel that move significantly faster. I can never figure out exactly how to get there, but if you walk up to the second floor and head towards the 21xx room numbers, you shouldn't have a problem.

Later.

Barbary Coast is same price as Imperial Palace, nearer to Bellagio and much easier in/out.

I found the alternate elevators. But it still sucked.

Part of the problem is that I usually have a car when I am in las vegas. Given that the orleans is so far better than the IP it isn't funny. I park valet, stay at a nice hotel with decent restaurants at a cheap rate, can hop in the car and get to the palms or mirage very easily. Bellagio more inconvenient, but not too bad. The walk to valet and the drive to the mirage parking lot is easier than the walk from the mirage to the IP given what I saw this trip. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Ditto on The Barbary Coast. I loved staying there. Rooms are great also for the price. That is, if you do anything in the rooms.

I just received an e-mail offer from them for Three nights for the price of Two during summer discount days. Three full days will come out to a little over $100 and that includes the tax! (monday-thursday). Not bad.

"..lost in the parking garage and got burned like tooohst.."

One time I said fvck the Fatburger and went to the Subway there. Man, that was a confusing garage. Wound up at the employees' exit & had to have the lady behind me swipe me out. Wuz sober, even. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Casino floor, food court, & shuttle stop outside is all dumps, but dunno 'bout the rooms.

For me, its all good at the Wynn Rd Budget Suites. Very scary looking 'neighbors', but never had a problem. So far.
