The Affects of the Straddle/Superstraddle

what are the affects, if any, of straddles and superstraddles in a NL game? i know it increases action, sweetens the pot, especially in PL games....but does the straddle actually become the new "Big Blind"? or does the straddler still play as if he's UTG?

one of my favorite moments playing PL recently:
5-5 blinds, there is a 10 straddle, a 20 restraddle, and a 30 rerestraddle. the max raise from UTG is now 130 straight. I am playing my button and I have AK. good times.

i play in a 1-2 homegame where 8 handed we re-straddled around to the button. f--k a union to break the wpt, players should just stop going to casinos altogether and play in home games.

To turnip et al.,

Shouldn't the re-restraddle be to 40, not 30? I thought that you kept doubling (the few times that I've been fortunate enough to encounter a re-restraddle, that's what's been done...)?

thats how we play. in the hand i mentioned it was $63 to go in the small blind. i was the re-straddle, i had nothing. 0nly the re-re-re straddle called and took it down uncontested on the flop...all the fun stuff was pre-flop.

yes, I must have remembered this wrong. definitely should keep doubling, but for some reason I remembered it as being 30 to go.

the hand was relatively unexciting afterwards, a MP player max raised and I reraised enough to put him all in, everyone else folded and we split the pot with 2 AKs.
