im getting the feeling...no. not in it's current state, the "wpt" years. many new faces have made there way to my 5-5 game. they all start in limit, then play the max. buy in NL game then bring their 1k bankroll to the 'big' game. every single one gets broke and all in the same exact way...playing their cards. it is just the greatest moment the first time a player has ever even had to consider laying down aces or 2 pair and they just cant do it. last night was classic, dude fron the max. buy game comes over with a $Grrr. plays tight for a while, raises under the gun, gets called in 2 places, flop is 9T2, bets out $100 gets called by meeee. turn is 4, bets out $200, i move him in and he is just tied in knots...like the most horrible thing in the world just happened to him...he turns 3 different colors and calls w/QQ, i of course have a set of tens and break him. they come to the game having never made a tough decision in their entire poker life...the entire rest of the casino is set up to protect these little babies, limited bets and max. buy ins...they cant handle the truth...if mason could just see one of their faces the first time they actually play poker NOT CARDS he would never make assinine statements about the complexity of limit poker again.

If you spread it, they will come.

Where else can a gambler end up? No limit is soooo much more fun than limit. I've enjoyed watching a lot of players develop. They learn to tighten up, to call a lot less, to think about their opponents. Then they hit a comfort zone and start developing reading skills and table sense. Some are told or figure out the fundamentals and eventually do those things subconsciously. Some have real reading talent. It's a fine day when they come into their own and finally learn to play against the big boys.

In time you come to fear no one except yourself.

I've chewed on this question a bit lately. The answer is it will not last at the current 'rate' or 'upswing'. There is a large energy wave of players coming into the scene but the wave will evidentially pass, crushed out by the harsh reality of Big Bet, Big Decision poker. The wave will last a few years or so before receding into the sunset, but the underlying big bet poker base will still be there and a game will always be available somewhere. And some of the players will hang on for awhile and add to the base pool. The next couple of years may be the best and most prime poker for a long time to come. Enjoy!

I do agree that in no limit poker one will have to face FAR more really tough decisions, and these decisions will have a much larger effect on "the moment" than you'll ever see in limit.

However, I also believe that it's FAR easier for an expert, or even close enough to an expert player, to win money from bad players playing no limit.

i.e. your example - i's often like shooting fish in a barrel. Limit poker is never that easy to make that much money at.

I think you have some points here, fish like your "minnow boy" could get scared off quick after a trip or two to the shark pond. However, until the WPT, and televised poker in general gets way less popular, I think the minnows will keep surfacing, despite all the sharks. The bigger no limit games probably don't have a bright and sunny future, but the smaller ones probably do.
