I knew I was behind on the river, but my hand couldn't stop hitting the raise button.

i would play it the same...many players will slowplay trip As like this, i think you win this hand most times...i don't think either of you really played this poorly except maybe villain slowplaying...

I think it's less slowplaying than being terrified of being outkicked.

Another reason not to play A2o.
