At a B&M table, how do you stack your chips? How tall are the stacks and what formation do you use? This question presumes a good day where you have more than 6 chips left /images/graemlins/cool.gif

Pyramid shape.

I put them in stacks of BB (big bets). 3 or 4 BB for the back few rows, cascading down to 1 BB in the front. Makes it easy to bet/raise.

I stack them in slightly uneven towers, usually around 20 high.

The reason for this is twofold. First, I'd rather have people not realize that I'm counting the money that carefully, maybe thinking I'm just gambling a little more. Secondly, I don't even have to worry that I play differently if I'm up or down, because I can't ever really tell till I count up.

i just leave the chips in the trays. and 1 stack of 20 outside for betting.

some places dont allow u to put trays on the table so i just take them out and stack them in stacks of 20. easy to count and easier to move around

i make a pyramid out of stacks of 20 chips. ideally, my one rack psuedo-pyramid (3 stacks in the back with two in front) becomes a complete 3-rack pyramid before i leave.

You would have to ask my personal chip-stacker. I focus exclusively on betting, calling, and raising.

Either stacks of 10 or 20. Plus a smaller stack of 1s for blinds, tokes and tips.

One stack to play with (riffle, shuffle, etc), one to bet from, the rest just waiting to be lost.

I used to do 20 chip stacks, but now I do 25 cause I play with 2 dollar chips, and it's easy to count when one stack = 50 bucks. So I make 2 rows and it's extremely easy to figure out where I'm at, not that it matters in the slightest. I just like knowing.

Where do you play? You go to Commerce?

Pyramid, taking from one corner when I bet, building corner back, and stacking it higher level by level if I win.

When I was staying in Vegas for a few months I used to frequent the same casino everyday, and another young player was also playing a lot, but he kept losing, and thought that I had found the secret to winning, namely having a mountain of chips in front of me, so one day he had bought in for an insane amount of white chips, you could hardly see if he had won or lost, but after many hours he had lost quite a bit, so I guess it wasn't the way the chips were stacked that did the difference.

i am a straight stacker. lots of vertical towers - i usually play live tournaments, so stacks of 100 if low denomination.

I usually do stacks of 20 in a pyramid shape and don't stop playing until it infringes on my neighbor's space /images/graemlins/cool.gif

i try to keep my chips as disorganised as possible, just in case someone has read caro's tells. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

sorry i didn't catch up with you the other weekend...my friend ended up busting out of the 10-20 on friday afternoon and we headed over to the taj where he could catch up in a hurry in a nice juicy game....which he thankfully did, otherwise the car ride home would have been unbearable /images/graemlins/wink.gif

i need to avenge my 6-12 defeat though so i will look you up one of these next weekends coming up at the borg.

Most of the players at our local 3/6 game stack their ones in stacks of 20 like they come in the trays.
I often keep mine in stacks of 25, just because I like it better like that, and for whatever value it has people think I have less chips than I do (they assume I have 20 stacks).
If I have a ton of chips I prefer to stack them higher, but not too imposing (like maybe 40 chips) rather than take up more felt in pyramid style. Also I may be lucky enough to change up for higher value chips that I can stack in behind my towers in small, known value stacks.

In Tourney play, or home games where you have a ton of chips of different denominations, I simply like to stack into piles of nice round amounts of money, those amounts depending on what is a decent stack size for the particular value of chip.

I do really like that decreasing BB pyramid though, quick, consistent actions: really cool I'll try it.

I don't believe that leaving chips unstacked, as I have done, really does much of anything except draw attention to the amount of chips you have or don't have. I don't know if players have read Caro, but I'm one of only 2 I've ever seen that's done this and it dosen't seem to make much of a difference.

I like knowing as well and I almost compulsively count and keep track of my chips - so maybe Caro is right and it does tell something about the player... /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm J_V. After I win a pot, my two henchman slide in and bring the chips in.

As for stacking, I order the henchman to build an igloo with my chips so I can obscure my cards and shoot angles all day.

i like to keep mine scattered, unpiled in front of me - except for 12 or so that i play with

The only live game I play is a 5 dollar buy in .05/.10 NL game. I just make one line of chips in denomination order. 5 cent chips in stacks of 50 cents, 10 cent chips in stacks of a buck. 50s in stacks of two bucks and ones in stacks of 5. If there's anything that doesn't even out I leave it behind.

I like order. Plus I like knowing how much I have. One of the big steps I'm trying to take in my game to eliminate tells is doing everything the same each time. So the consistent chip stacking is part of that.

I used to do the 20 pyramid stacks, but now prefer to do 35 high stacks in variuos formations. Sometimes in walls, pyramids, or straight stacks. When playing no limit, I do stack the courteous way and that is by chip value.

Geez, Caro's Book of Tells certainly wouldn't be helpful against you if someone is just enterting the table /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I personally bring a big bucket with me and pyle them in that, then when it's full of chips I cash them in.

Stacks of 40 chips -- mainly 40 instead of 20 to leave plenty of room in front of me.

On a good day making this into a large pyramid shape.

Hey tpir,

i make a pyramid out of stacks of 20 chips. ideally, my one rack psuedo-pyramid (3 stacks in the back with two in front) becomes a complete 3-rack pyramid before i leave.

How exactly do you make a 3-rack pyramid? The way I make mine, I can only have a 4-stack, 2-rack, 4-rack, or 7-rack. I've never gone higher than that before, but I guess the next one would be 11-racks and one stack.

Unless you're doing a one-dimensional pyramid (which isn't actually a pyramid), I don't see how you can make a 3-rack pyramid out of 20 chip stacks...

you are right, it is definitely not a pyramid once i reach 3 racks. it starts as a tiny pyramid and then i build around it, shift it a bit level it out and grow little wings off of the sides and front so that it ends up being a large triangle... 5 stacks, 4 in front of that, 3 in front of that...etc....

overhead view:
Code:

X
X X

then i try to start a mini-pyramid on top of that if the night is going well...

sorry for the confusion...i am not very good with the words /images/graemlins/wink.gif
