Bob Stupak has been playing in a big NL game the last few nights at the Commerce. Not sure what the blinds were, but some players had over $100k in front of them. The game was triple draw lowball. Some of the other players were Lee Salem, Johnny Chan, Robert Oppenheimer, Mike Wattel. Sorry for any spelling mistakes.

Can Stupak play or is he fishy?

"Can Stupak play or is he fishy?"

I remember a few years ago, the E! channel (or some phony-baloney "network" like that) was doing a show about the WSOP. They featured a heads-up, $100,000 NLHE freezeout between Stupak, and defending WSOP champ Russ Hamilton. We had this on in the sportsbook.

"I'll give you Stupak at +300," I offered one of the clerks.

"No, YOU take Stupak! You can have +400!"

We never made the bet, because neither of us wanted to back Bob.

Bob got him.

As Hamilton walked off, looking like he just got kicked in the gut (don't we all make that face after a crushing loss at the tables?), the E! crew stuck a microphone in his face. Russ tried to let it roll off his back, but had a tough time of it.

"Oh, well," he said. "You don't get paid by the day in this job, you get paid by the year, or the month."

Then he added, somberly, "This ain't gonna be good month."

Bobby

(Apologies to all if I didn't get the quotes exactly right.)

I think that the fact that they are only spreading this game because Bob is in town should tell you something. One of the players told me he won $100K one night, most of it from Bob.

Bob loves to gamble big and he thinks that his experience plus his lack of caring about the big money overcomes his disadvantage in poker skills. I don't know, you be the judge. He rarely plays though so its hard to say where he would stand. I have heard in the past when he had a game going here they actually attracted real fish because they were playing high enough and Bob rounded up a couple of huge poker names to play. Bob won quite a bit in that game with one guy (biggest fish) supposedly admitting he hadn't played 7 stud without wild cards in 10 years. Now if that doesn't sound like a fish nothing does!

He's the one that put up the Stratosphere. I don't think he owns it anymore. He's a big gambler, but I don't know that he is that great of a poker player.

Bob Stupak used to own Vegas World now the Stratosphere. He is a BIIIGGGGG gambler who once bet $1Million in a Larry Holmes fight which he won. I don't know how good he is as a poker player though.

Bob - Las Vegas needs you now more than ever, please come back.

I visited Vegas world to check out the blackjack scams and figured out how bogus they were in 10 seconds. That must have been in 92 or 93. Sorry I missed the beef tongue. Vegas world was the grand monument to tacky and wacky gambling. I loved every second I was there.

It was hilarious but I was too sensitive to all the human misery. I just couldn't take it. From talking to one of Stupak's security guards while eating fast food across the street and realizing this guy with a gun was 100% pure psycho with an I.Q. of maybe 82 to playing poker with bizarre people I just couldn't take much Vegas World. I mean, my goal when I played there was to avoid the wet spots on the table. You got to see the throngs of people who had polyester outfits, diseases, beaks, snouts, feathers, antennae, extra appendages and the like. The space theme was appropriate because I think some customers were exiled from other planets and sent here like a prison colony or something. The ship would crash out by Area 51 and they'd catch the bus at Alamo into town. I ordered a drink there once, took one look at the glass, and had to forget it.

Too bad it's gone.

Back in maybe 90 or 91, I visited some friends who lived in Vegas. We were sitting around their house about half crocked when my friend tells me there is a casino I HAVE to see while I'm there. I'm thinking, "have to see" like you have to see Caeser's Palace, but instead we ended up a Vegas World. I couldn't belive my eyes. I think my favorite part was the solar system model they had that was just a bunch of styrofoam balls! And, they had like a million bucks in a big plexiglass thing in the middle of the place. It had so much muck and grime on it, it was disgusting. Vegas World was a monument to tacky and disgusting; I really miss that place... :-).

Good luck all,

Fitz
