Is online Hold'em like stud where you bet after each card?

Starting out should I stick to stud or is Hold'em easy enough to pick up on the fly?

I appreciate the 411

online hold em is like live hold em.

you bet with the first two cards.

you bet after the three community cards.

you bet after the fourth community card.

you bet after the fifth community card.

There is no ante, just blinds. there are four betting rounds as opposed to the 5 in stud.

If you are interested in Hold Em I would try and play some free games first. You can't really screw up (ie bet out of turn or the wrong amount) online. But just play the play money games till you get the hang of it.

Does any site have a good selection of stud games or do I need to get up on Hold'em?

PS I don't know what Omaha is either.

Seriously,

Get Fundamentals of Poker by Mason malmuth. I did.

it goes through the types of games and some basic strategy and how the betting works. if youdon't know what hold em or omaha is, pick it up, its pretty cheap.

Sounds like good advice Arch. I take it that the sites don't have stud games going.

Most sites do have Stud, it's just a matter of how many people are playing at one time. If you enjoy stud and are good at it, then by all means play it. If you enjoy poker though, and are good at it, it's a good idea to learn Hold Em, because that's where the fish are right now. This forum has been great for my hold em game. Go to the Beginners section and ask questions there. Keep it simple. Don't play No Limit to start. Most poker sites have play money games where you can practice.

Party has more than enough stud games to choose from. Paradise has stud.
