Well, took $200 to Ameristar in Kansas City yesterday afternoon and tried my hand at "face-to-face" Hold'em. I played $3/$6 with a Kill (first time playing a kill game as well) and played from about 4pm to 2am and I had a great time...however....

From about 4pm to midnight, I won about 3 hands, was second best about 4 times. I was playing pretty tight, but, very few people noticed and lots called when I played & bet. I was all-in at one point at about midnight and won a $100 pot, and then I started to slowly build my stacks back. In the next two hours I had won all I lost and $60 more and called it a night...it was pretty late for me /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I played less than a dozen hands in 8 hours, and saw the flop only from the blinds (not EVERY time) for most of that time. In the last two hours I started to get a hand to play about once a circuit and usually won with it.

The question I have is this: Is this a normal expectation of the distribution of hands?

You either had a legend worthy run of bad cards or you were being too tight. B&M deals about 30-40 hands/hr. If you saw only 12 flops in 8 hours, well, you can do the math. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I had a game where I saw 4 flops in 3 hours. It happens more live than online because they deal so slow. Can't compare 20-30 hands/hr to 50-60 hands/hr x multiple tables.

It happens, but not often enough to make a man never want to play live again.

Well, I don't think I was TOO tight. I think it was a very long run of poor cards. Over the whole night I never got: AA, KK, QQ, or AKs; I got AKo about 4 times and won once with it; I got KQs about 3 times and never won with it. My biggest hand was hitting JJ for a Jacks full boat. My biggest beat was Hitting AQs for top two-pair, 3-betting before the flop, capping after the flop (AQX, no flush), catching a Jack on the turn, Bet-raise-call, blank on River, Bet-raise-call...someone had stayed in with KTo /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Late in the evening (the last two hours) my winning hands tended to be middle pairs and suited connectors...big cards were utterly worthless most of the night.

Maybe not "normal", but not to be unexpected either. It does happen.

Spyder,

Do you know if they spread low level NL games at the Ameristar, or any other of the KC area casinos? Maybe 1/2 blinds or something like that. I am in Wichita and have been thinking about going up there sometime. I've never played live before either and would like to give it a shot.

No....their card room is very small...maybe 20 to 25 tables. The only Hold'em games that I saw on the board were 3/6-Kill & 10/20. They also had 7 card stud and a couple other games. They had an "Interest" list where if they got enough players on the list for a game they'd start one.

Yeah, I was hoping it just was a bad run of cards and not the norm....if it was the norm, then that was WAY too much work /images/graemlins/wink.gif

There is a no limit game on thursday nights. It starts at 7pm. $2 and $5 blinds. $100 minimum buy-in, $200 max.

i seems as though u were playing against loose players, if u were, big cards lose value while pairs and suited connectors gain value, which could explain u losing alot with big off suit cards

Yes big unsuited hands lose SOME value. They do NOT become valueless, unplayable, or -EV. This is a common misconception on the board.

They are still playable in loose games.

Yeah, I realize that...I am pretty fair (and getting much better) about getting away from them if there's action and I miss the flop completely.

The problem I had wasn't that I was losing, it was that over 8 hours I only got about a dozen truly playable hands...and I just don't play that tight. Online, I typically see about 30% flops. I was hoping that this was just a bad run and that I wouldn't normally have to work so hard to make $60 /images/graemlins/smile.gif
