Care to make a little wager on that? I know Ulysses is gonna get slaughtered by me. I'd put the over/under at 27 hands before he's chipless.

I got $20 that says my team wins if you want to put your money where your mouth is.

What's up Doc!
If you need wabbit hunting lessons contact Elmer Fudd. I expect that you'll have about as much success as he's had in the past - but he does have a lot of experience.

I also think that Acme is having a special on a HU poker manual, written by Yosemite Sam co-authored by Wily Coyote. I highly recommend it - it has all their premium plays in it.

Clearly, all of the captain's will toss and turn in their sleep every night, as they ask God, "why oh why did I pass Calvin seven times?"

I am proclaiming myself as the number one sleeper in this year's HULA draft, and, to spite all who passed over me, and honor JTG, I plan on crushing all of my opponents in a combined 57 hands.

My email got there instantly as well, but I can't sit at the tables or chat, I imagine it is just gonna take support a while to validate us all since this is a lot more traffic than they are used to. The software seems pretty quick though, and I had no trouble downloading it or running it.

Hey Doug,

I had no problems with the software and the account setup. I am using Win2k. However I deposited last evening with the proper sign up code and have not received any deposit bonus and have not had any money removed for HULA as of yet? Im not being impaitent just wandering if anyone knows how long for this to happen. Thanks.

gonores
03-06-2004, 03:46 PM
Impatience is fine, as I was assured we would be playing today....I'm getting a little antsy myself. I've been waiting for half an hour with live chat support, and I am trying to get in touch with the person who help Mike and I set this up, but I am sure TPC is a busy, busy place today.

Let me clarify once more that the guest list for the HULA table is empty right now less myself and my test-pilot friend. No one can sit at the table until the guest list is hammered out, and I am currently working on this exact thing right now.

JTG, I had the same problem, somewhere on the validation screen there is an option to resend it, it came almost right away after I did that.

Also, I don't know what you use for email, but Yahoo marked it as spam and moved it to the bulk folder.

BugsBunny
03-06-2004, 04:12 PM
Silly question - but are you sure you entered the right email address? Also if there's any spam filtering on your account check the spam files. The mail comes as an html message, some spam filters may pick it up.

My validation code came in seconds.

JTG51
03-06-2004, 04:19 PM
Silly question - but are you sure you entered the right email address?

Pretty sure. That's the first thing I thought of, so I double checked.

Also if there's any spam filtering on your account check the spam files.

As far as I know, I don't have any spam filtering. I'm using Outlook and don't even have a junk folder.

JTG51

JTG, I had the same problem, somewhere on the validation screen there is an option to resend it, it came almost right away after I did that.

I tried that too, with no luck. Hopefully the third time will be the charm.

BugsBunny
03-06-2004, 04:26 PM
Ah - but does your ISP do any filtering? Some do (and sometimes don't even tell you about it)

BugsBunny
03-06-2004, 04:34 PM
If you do check with your ISP make sure you get tech support - a customer service rep for may know diddly (assuming large ISP). Relevant info:

From address: support@powernetpoker.com
IP address: 200.46.97.154

Note that the IP address *is* listed in 2 of the more aggressive spam blocking lists. It's not in any of the sane ones though.

JTG51
03-06-2004, 05:19 PM
There's no way for me to access my junk mail folder (which I didn't even know I had) through Outlook, so I had to check my mail through my ISP's homepage. Sure enough, the validation code was there.

Thanks for the help.

BugsBunny
03-06-2004, 05:58 PM
OK, what OS? What browser? Did you try re-downloading (maybe the file got corrupted during the download)?

If you select the downloaded file, right-click, and choose properties you can check the exact file size. It should be 4,565,539 bytes. If that's not the size then it somehow got corrupted during download.

Mike Haven
03-07-2004, 12:09 AM
Received from TPC:

"The not valid win32 app means their download was corrupted, i.e. internet connection too slow, too many functions working while trying to download, etc. They need only delete the download, clean their temp files, reboot and re-download."

Mike Haven
03-07-2004, 12:11 AM
Received from TPC:

"If they do not get their validation code, have them telephone the support line 800 480 7038 immediately and support can validate their account on the telephone."

PS - Gonores - I don't yet have access to the HULA tables.
Having been through this twice I think I know what is happening. If you requst access to the HULA tables support will give you access to all the table names that are currently playing if a new one shows up you dont have access but if a table that you can get to closes and then opens up again then you have access.

I currently have access to HULA tables named HULA 4, HULA 5 and HULA 6, but not HULA 1-2-or-3
I can live with this now since I still have not been able to contact my opponant to schedule anyway.

I won in 50 minutes. No idea how many hands it was since I didn't reset my data, so there was data from earlier in the day.

My props to GoT -- a wail of a combatant. I definitely felt like I was having to change gears more times than normal when playing someone HU. It helped catching some cards at the right times, and I succeeded in some key bluffs.

GoT, I'll give you the option to comment more if you wish -- elsewise, good game and g'luck to you and your team the rest of the way.

03-09-2004, 12:22 AM
Yeah I felt bad about that after betting the river and he timed out.

One specific hand was when the board was K88K. I had KQ and bet, he raised, I 3-bet, then he put a message into the chat saying his buttons disappeared... but then like 5 seconds later, he called. So, I thought that must have meant it was fine, and bet the river. Then his buttons disappeared again, and this time got timed out and the pot was mine. I sorta figure I had him beat anyway since he didn't 4bet me, but if he did have a king, I feel bad about that.

If GoG will reschedule, I can and will reschedule.

Bugsbunny defeats Rugbyrat in 127 hands. Rugbyrat held the early lead, but then the Bunny got a good run of cards plus some fortuitous bluffs and took the lead never to look back /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Was a good match. Key hand towards the very end was when the Bunny cracked Rugby's AA with a flopped 2 pair. That hand put Rugbyrat down but not quite out. On the very last hand the the Bunny held J4 and Rugby held J7 (I think - might have been J3) - the cards dealt a 4 on the turn and it was over.

Edit: Some stats;
I forgot to reset my stats at the beginning so this is for the last 112 (of 127) hands.
Games won: 58%
Flops seen: 49%
Showdowns won: 68%
Win % of flops seen: 69%

154 hands (fell like more).

Bit of a rollercoaster, down to 300 or so, back up to 1000, then slowly down and out.

Turning point for me was my A5s, making two pair running into AA. Had also lost 2 hands in a row just before with pocket pairs to Smudge's bigger pocket pairs!

Really good fun. Congrats to a worthy winner.

Sheriff

Stats were interesting:

71% flops seen.
I won 51% of the hands where I saw a flop, 54% of the games overall and 52% of the hands that I showed down. Smudge just picked off all the big ones /images/graemlins/frown.gif

I thought Havana played a great game, I just wish I could have put up more of a fight. I wasn't really in the right mindset and took way to long to get adjusted to the game. I couldn't catch anything early and HB's constant pressure put me in a huge hole to start the match. I managed to steal a few chips back until the big hand where he caught his set of 7s against my AQ. After that I was pretty shortstacked and in the final hand we threw in a ton of chips on the flop where we each had OE straight draws (8TQ flop - he had KJ, I had 97) and a 9 on the river put me away.

Like I said before, I thought HB played great and I only wish I could have given him a better match.

fluff
03-10-2004, 01:25 AM
In a nailbiter, fluff vs Bunky9590 took 1:50 to complete, with fluff winning.

Early in the game fluff had Bunky9590 cornered and down to his last $100, from which he came back all the way to dominate until the positions were reversed to fluff having around $100 left.

In a comeback completely attributable to dumb luck, after trying to get himself out of his misery by going all in, fluff was able to bounce back.

The crucial pot in the game happened around 5 minutes before the last, when Bunky9590's flopped TPTK and fluff turned a straight. After a raising war on the turn, and a call on the river, the pot was pushed over to fluff, leaving Bunky9590 with around $100.

The final hand of the match was fluff's pocket JJ which held up over Bunky9590's Kx. (don't remember what the x was, but I remember saying "no kings, no kings!"). /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Congrats jek, well played.

In an embarrasing massacre, jek eliminates DeucesUp in under 15 minutes. Although, jek's big wins are too numerous to sumarize, 2 stand out (possibly because of the poor play on my part):

jek took an early lead with TT against my AK, capped preflop and I threw around a few extra bets on the flop and turn before calling down all the way unimproved.

The clincher came with jek's JJ against my 87s. Flop was 665 (or 655 can't remember. Turn was a 4 and the river a J. I put in WAY too many bets on the river, not believing he had the boat.

I'm going to Florida tomorrow and won't be back until Wednesday. Hopefully, I can address all issures by tomorrow in the early afternoon, so I won't be missed. Hopefully, I will be able to check my PMs and threads once or twice, but you guys know my automated response system anyways. TALK TO SUPPORT FOR ANY TPC PROBLEMS.

Issue #1: Free Agents

In no particular order, here is the list of the undrafted players in HULA. PM me if you should be on this list but are not.

Cjs
Blade XX
Bubu
Fudgenut
Darkknight
Itsmarty
Irishboy
Pridemore

If you have a player that is incognito (ie strips and NLSoldier), you can claim one of these players as your sub and place him at the end of your list (i.e. if you are missing your 6th round pick, bump your 7th into the 6 slot, 8th to the 7th slot, and FA into the 8 slot). If you claim one of these before the guy you are replacing pays, then the FA becomes a full-fledged team member. He MUST pay in and he is entitled to any team member earnings.

If you need a sub for a week, you are obliged to take from the top of the list. The sub is then cycled down to the bottom of the list.

Issue #2: Team Canada

RustyJEDI is still looking for 1 more player for Team Canada. Hopefully, we will have an answer by tonight, so I can get them the appropriate sign-up stuff.

Issue #3: Full Schedule

I've made this easy on myself. Instead of waiting for Team Canada to make a decision to release a full schedule, I am going to release the full schedule right now.

Notes: Instead of having bye weeks if Team Canada develops (which becomes a problem in a 7 week - 9 team league), I decided to make some teams have double duty on some weeks. Once you see the schedule, you'll figure it out.

On the issue of matchups, I developed the matchups each week with the issue of team fairness first and foremost. For instance, I could have Team A's captain face Team B's 8th pick, and then give the rank advantage to Team B in the other 8 matchups (B's captain vs. A's 1, B's 1 vs A's 2, B's 2 vs. A's 3, etc). However, I tried to avoid that the best way I could. If you assign each pick a value (cap = 1, 1st = 2) and take the difference in each matchup and add them up, the sum of the differences will equal 0. Furthermore, I saw to it that each team have an equal number of advantageous and disadvantageous matchups. Between those two factors, I believe the matchups are quite fair.

Because of my focus when developing the schedule, I did not focus on making sure each draft pick played a good number of high-ranking picks and low ranking picks. Maybe the 7th rounders have a tougher indivdual schedule than the 6th rounders...I don't know, but I really don't think it's that important to find out. If you come up with a better matchup system than mine, feel free to present to me for HULA II.

Anywho, here it is. I listed the Home team first for some reason.

Issue #4: Website

Simon's new site is looking great. Check it out.

If you got to the bottom of this....Thank you for all your support and patience through this not-so-smooth start to HULA. Although it is clear that TPC has its problems, it is also VERY obvious they are busting their asses to try to make this all work, and that their small support staff has been seriously awesome. Keep in mind any problems you face in week 1 when the playoffs roll around, and take note if there have or have not been substantial improvements in all problem areas. My guess is there will be.

cheers,

Doug

Looking at my potential schedule, I'm off to find some razor blades! Seriously though, no schedule you make can please everyone and the cream should rise to the top regardless.

The only system I could think of that may be better is to let the captains choose their running order each week, I believe this has been suggested previously.

Yeah...that seems fun too, but when this whole thing started, I made a promise to keep the green players in mind. I really want to make sure that 7th and 8th rounders get at least one or two shots at some top-notch competition.

Also, that makes the captain's jobs harder. Next time, I want to give captains a token of our appreciation for doing the extra work. If we can do that, then we will make them work harder.

Thanks for all the hard work.

"On the issue of matchups, I developed the matchups each week with the issue of team fairness first and foremost. For instance, I could have Team A's captain face Team B's 8th pick, and then give the rank advantage to Team B in the other 8 matchups (B's captain vs. A's 1, B's 1 vs A's 2, B's 2 vs. A's 3, etc). "However, I tried to avoid that the best way I could. If you assign each pick a value (cap = 1, 1st = 2) and take the difference in each matchup and add them up, the sum of the differences will equal 0."

This will be true no matter what matchups you use, since sum(matchup differences)=sum(1..9)-sum(1..9)=0. So, the only useful consideration is:

"Furthermore, I saw to it that each team have an equal number of advantageous and disadvantageous matchups. Between those two factors, I believe the matchups are quite fair. "

Except that there are an odd #? So always a 4-5 split? Or do you mean weekly matchups?

Craig,

There is at least 1 dead even matchup in each set of weekly matchups. Therefore, it's either 4-4-1, 3-3-3, or 0-0-9.

It seems like available cash, until you try to withdraw. Actually in the terms and conditions, you agree that you will accumulate 5 Player points for each dollar in bonus before you are allowed to withdraw.

For tournament play, you get 5 PPs for every $1 in fee, so essentially you're playing without a fee. For ring games they don't give out formulas, but I played a 0.5/1 game for 1:40 the other day and only got 12 PPs.

I deposited 100$ got the 10$ for free, played 2 3 player shootouts at 20+2 a piece won one (60$), had 126 dollars and requested a cashout for the 100$ I put in.

Had to get with support as it did not show what kind of cashout I had gotten.
Support was umm, emmm, bla bla bla then they say cashout people will be back on monday (this was in the weekend) but that doesent matter anyways because I have to play the required hands to cash out.

Well, at this point I am happy I didn't claim the deposit bonus, so I could tell them off that they didn't give me any bonus what are you talking about?

The reason I didnt just play their cash games with my 100$ is that their rake is HIGH.

Justin takes an 800 to 400 lead about 10 minutes in. About 30 minutes in, it's all over as Justin has to put his last few chips in w/ some crap and I happily put mine in w/ A2. Unfortunately I river a straight, since I would have preferred to win with Ace-high. I actually wanted to win the hand before when we went all-in w/ his 54 vs. my 97. Winning it with 9-high would have been awesome, except he made a pair.

In some serious HU commentary, Justin played too conservatively and did not play back at me enough when I started getting out of line. Every time I sensed him coming back at me, I backed off and only went crazy w/ big hands. But in the interim, I was stealing him blind and re-raising pre-flop then taking down every flop w/ big cards. He also called a little too much trying to keep me honest rather than raising, which let me catch him on the river a couple of important times when he should have taken down the pot on the flop or turn.

Well suckouts galore is the only way to describe this one. It was ugly folks. I think he was giving me a bit too much credit /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Cup jumped off to a quick start getting up to 800 - 400 after winning a couple big hands from me. I ground my way back and had a few key suckouts to get to the point where I put cup all in with my 44 vs his 66 on a 4 3 2 flop. Turn is a 6 and we're back at it. Anyways I played pretty bad but managed to put him away in 51 minutes. This was not one for the ages.

approx 115 hands, 30 minutes.

we traded the lead back and forth 800-400, then 400-800, then back. Had him down to 180, but he got back to 400.

Then I got lucky w/92 vs Q5. Flopped bottom pair and bigger flush draw vs his top pair; I rivered the 2. Next hand, I had AA, jason had K4s, board KJ832, we capped the river. After that I kept getting slightly better cards and chipped away.

Final hand:

A /images/graemlins/club.gif9 /images/graemlins/spade.gif
K /images/graemlins/heart.gif6 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif

All in preflop

534A5 on board.

24 minutes.

I was down to 200 early, and things were looking bad, but slowly turned things around.

GG Book, well played, thought I was probably toast after the start I had. It's what I feared because I'm like almost always a slow starter.

Yes, it was a suckout-a-thon. I jumped out to an early lead thanks to some good suckoutage. Then, there was about 30 minutes of grinding. I stole from him, he stole from me more and we we back to about even.

The suckout switch flipped to Vehn until I was dramatically short stacked. I battled back with a few suckouts of my own(a la 66 turning 44), but I didn't have enough chips to battle the amazing suckout power of Vehn. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Ouch! 18 hands. My maniacal tendencies run into vastly superior cards. Like boats and flushes. First big hand was my A8o vs his 99. I flop gutshot, he trips. Board pairs and my ace comes on the river. Last stand was 99 vs 66, I rivered the trips, he the flush and that was it.

Beat TTT in 75 hands - mostly because I had his top pair dominated with my top pair(or two pair, etc) a couple consecutive times. I did get to dump about 8-9 BBs to a Q high flush when I had a J high flush, though. I play good.
