Occassionally I look through the help wanted ads in my local paper and came across an intriguing one:

Poker Players Wanted

Earn $10/hr working 20 - 40 hours a week.

Of course, I had to email (there was no phone number, just an email address). It turns out it's a new online poker site owned by a company in my home state and they're looking to pay people to fill up their 5/10 games.

I did some research and they appear legit, they resell service basically, from an off shore online gaming company.

What are your guy's thoughts on this? Obviously, this seems like a good deal to me. If you're getting 1 BB an hour payed for and you're a decent player, this seems ideal. What about ethics? Is it ok for a player at the table to be payed by the "casino" if they're using their own stakes to actually play?

It happens all the time. The player is called a 'prop'. There are plenty of online prop players that post here and I'm sure you have played with a prop or two in AC.

Props are routinely put into games that are shorthanded and they cannot choose what games to play in.

Sounds like a great idea to get paid to play poker but I feel the freedom to choose the games I play in to be more profitable than any amount of pay I'd recieve.

Peace,

Yeah, that was one of my concerns Joe. I asked the owner of the site about table selection and his only comment was that I would only be paid for tables I played at with 4 or more people. I have to check out the software and how many people are actually playing there already. I'd hate to be forced to always play short handed on the only 5/10 available. I guess the worst that could happen though is that I don't make my 20 hours because I can't justify playing at the available tables and I lose out on what ever hours under 20 I did play for that week (if that's the case).
