I'll be road tripping down and spending a week in Vegas from March 22-28. It's still 3 weeks away but Spring Break is all I can think about. I definitely have an acute case of senioritis. I'd love to hear from people who live in the great city or have recently made the trip on what a 23 year-old should do to maximize his enjoyment. I'd like to check out all the poker rooms to get the full experience but,
(1) What casinos on the strip have poker rooms? I know Mirage, Bellagio, Excalibur, and Monte Carlo but there must be more. Any I should avoid?
(2) What are the most entertaining non-poker activities in the city? Best clubs, best shows etc.
(3) What are the best restaurants(all types) in the general vicinity?
(4) What are the best values(if these exist) in the city. Any amazing deals on shows or dinner or clubs?
(5) If there have been any similar posts recently, please direct me to them.
Thanks in advance. Hope to see some of you there.

Schaefer, with regards the poker I have been working on putting together a complete list. A draft version of this is available at Las Vegas Poker Rooms (http://www.pokerupdate.com/lasvegas.htm).

This is still very much work-in-progress, so any comments/corrections are more than welcome.

Have a great trip,
Andrew

You're working on the same thing I was thinking about doing. I even have a couple of domain names picked out. Maybe I'll let you handle it /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Anyway, stuff to do: If you have the cash, there are a zillion top-notch shows in town. I haven't been to see Mystere, yet, but it looks highly entertaining. The fountains at the Bellagio just never get old as far as I am concerned. The Treasure Island show is quite a site but show up a little early to stake a place on the rail. If you're looking for party atmosphere casinos, you'll want to visit both the Rio and the Palms. The Rio is an odd place; it really is like Carnivale only with a lot of old slot jockeys wandering around. Bring your gay friends and single female acquaintances because the half-naked male dancers work the floor between shows. Some of the slot machine groups have platforms on top where the half-naked women work.

I don't think you really need to plan much to have fun in Vegas. Just walk into the places with the brightest lights and something will be going on. Poker is fairly easy to find. The Orleans has a large poker room and you can always go to the Bellagio for higher stakes and the Excalibur for lower stakes. I hear the Stardust has poker, too, but I haven't played there.

Andrew,
Great job with the compilation. This list will really help me plan my poker time. Good to hear that some of the rooms are non-smoking as this allows for much longer sessions. I will have to check out the Mirage and hopefully be in the presence of the greatness that is Clarkmeister.

Thanks again, Schaefer

I'm gonna be in Vegas next week, and I was wondering if any of the locals get together regularly for profiteering. I seem to remember Wednesday afternoons, but I don't recall where. Anyone gonna be in town next week?

Hi Cosimo,

If it's the Wednesday Poker Discussion Group you are talking about..........

This Wednesday (3rd) it's at Jason's Deli Westside (Charleston & Fort Apache/Rampart). Jason's Westside is near the Von's grocery store. The north-west section of Charleston & Fort Apache/Rampart.

BTW, The week after (10th) we are at a different location.

We meet at 2:00 pm. Eat lunch, talk in a casual highly unstructured format until 3:00 pm.

At 3:00 (hopefully everyone is done eating by then) we start the group discussion where we talk about anything and everything poker.

Last week we had 2+2 visitor Bob S in from out of town and the week before we had 2+2er Slamdunkpro.

All 2+2ers are always welcome.

Also last week we had Dr Al, Poker Babe, Barry Tanenbaum, 2+2er Wombat 6 and a cast of characters ranging from brand new beginners to seasoned pros.

Me? I'm just a guy trying to learn how to play ace-king.

Anyway, hope to see you there!

And have a great trip in Las Vegas.

Best

Howard

Very nice site...excellent job. One question regardng the Bellagio weekly $500+40. Do they have any super-sats, or all they all single table sats? If you win a sat, do you have to play in the main tourney, or can you cash in the chips for real money and not play in the tourney?

Hey Schaefer
Im not going to add anything about poker cause im a newbie myself, but you want to have an excellent Italian meal thats only about a $5 cab ride away ? Try Romas on spring mtn road between Decatur and Jones. These guys can cook and wont fracture your wallet like some of the strip hotels will. And it aint garbage like the Olive gardens or that other toilet Buca Depepe.
You wont be disappointed.

It won't be a joke once I get there. I think I will stop by. If you see a tall fat guy with long hair looking confusedly around the room, it's probably me.
