Does anyone have an opinion about Sam's Town Tunica? The town is busy this weekend and we received the poker rate at this property.

I wonder what's going on this weekend. The Gold Strike was 'overbooked' already (whatever that means) and the Grand has been sold out since the 9th. I tried to get a room at both places. I realize this has nothing to do with your question, so...

The only reason I didn't call Sam's Town is because it's still full of smokers. I don't smoke and have gotten spoiled by the non-smoking poker rooms. Hiyever, I've stayed at Sam's Town several times and my only real complaint is the smoke, so if that's not an issue for you, then no worries.

One thing to note is that poker-rate players are stuck in their east building: you'll be across the parking lot from the casino (unless they've changed their policy since I was last there). I found it a wash, though, since those rooms were nicer and quieter than the ones in the main hotel.

The games are pretty good. They have the cheapest fixed-limit HE in town at 2/4, if that's your thing. It's pretty much entirely beginners/retirees. The 4/8 is generally good. It's occasionally rocky, but probably not on the weekends; just switch tables if so. Or if you're looking for 10/20, that'll be going too. They also spread stud (some weird limit, like 2-6, I think).

If there are any tournies going, watch out for the juice. It can be real steep there.

Make sure you immediately clock in when you sit down; you may need to get a player's card first. Comps aren't hard to get but be sure you're on the clock because the floor staff, well, god bless 'em, at least they mean well /images/graemlins/wink.gif (most of them, anyway). If you like BBQ Corky's has a buffet there and when everything's fresh it's awful dang good. Rest of the food is, well, casino food.

Blah, blah, blah, hope this helps. It's late and I've blathered on too long.

George

The 4/8 at the Grand was the easiest game of all time to beat last weekend.

Yeah, the Grand 4/8 was pretty easy for me too...if you play a little tight. The only thing is that I would have AK and then somebody would hit something on like 82off or something like that. I think finished up about 25+BB each session.

Tunica has been full all month long...don't really know what is up with that. George gave pretty good description of Sam's Town.

Not sure if Sam's is having a tourney this weekend, but Goldstrike is. I'm going to try that out on Sat morning. I've never played a live tourney before, so I'll try this one out, as its pretty cheap. Its an early bird, starts at 11am Sat at Goldstrike, if interested.

Good luck and have fun.
