5stud Hi-lo Early Declare

There is a chap called Silberstang who has written a gambling encyclopedia full of not so great advice.

However, there was one interesting thing in it.

He said because player intentions are so transparent in 5stud hi-lo some poker schools have the declare 'before the cards are dealt out'. By this, I take it he means that you could declare on second street. (For what it is worth, he does not recommend this format.)

Has anyone played 5stud hi-lo declare with the declare on second street (when you only possess a hole card and a door card)?

Never heard of declaring on 2nd street. We rarely play this in my home game, but when we do we always declare on 5th street. We play the game with 2 down (first and last cards in the hole) and 3 up. I think the traditional way is to play it one down than 4 up. Since the pot is split, we play with 2 hole cards to generate more action.
