I dusted off a CD called 'Hound Dog Taylor - A Tribute' and gave it a listen. I had forgot how good the CD is. Screaming vocals and sassy slide guitar work and a racy beat throb throughout. Notable blues artist and bands like Luther Allison (now dead, I think), Elvin Bishop, Son Seals, Gov't Mule contributed along with a host of other greats. Worth getting, check it out The Dog (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000000A1X/qid=1077516941/sr=1-6/ref=sr_1_6/103-5414769-0723842?v=glance&s=music)

I actually do not have anything by 'The Dog' himself - any recommendations on his best recorded work?

"Shake Your Money Maker."

Your post floored me. I didn't know of the album you mentioned. I hadn't heard Hound Dog's name mentioned in thirty years.

I just checked out the URL you posted. I know this may start a riot, but my guess is that George Thoroughgood comes closest to replicating Hound Dog's energy. (I'd look for Rock artists rather than Blues artists for a Taylor tribute.)

Now if only Wanda Jackson would get a thread.

If you like slide guitar, you should check out Robert Randolph & The Family Band (http://www.robertrandolph.net/) ,
he's pretty cool

Thanks for the tip, you old Texas Hound Dog. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I am buying 'Shake Your Money Maker' - I do not think I'll be dissapointed.

The tribute 'album' is great and I agree that The Dog was more of a rocker than a traditional blues man.

Isn't his version actually a cover of the Elmore James tune and called "Roll Your Money Maker."

BTW - if you are into music at all and aren't familiar with this site check it out. It will blow your mind. AMG (http://www.allmusic.com/)

I know I've heard older versions, but I can't begin to say who did it originally. That URL is a great site! It'll take me months to work my way through it.
