Fun 4-8 hand from Cali

Yesterday I had a monster 4-8 session on the road here at Commerce. The following hand amused me greatly.


5 limpers to the button who raises. Button had previously raised with the stupendous hand of 24o. SB, a young white kid trying to play well calls, and I call in the BB with Qs5s. All others call. 8 see the flop for 2 bets each.


Flop: As 10s 5c


Great flop for me. Bottom pair and a big flush draw. The kid in the SB bets. I raise. I'm not knocking anyone out with this so might as well make sure to build the pot. Also, if I get 3-bet by the kid, I know that my pair is no good. 4 players cold call, including the preflop raiser on the button. SB looks at me nervously and calls.


Turn: [As 10s 5c] 3h


Checked to me, I bet, MP1, MP2 and button call. Kid in SB disgustedly folds.


River: [As 10s 5c 3h] 9d


I bet, MP1 and MP2 fold, Button calls.


I look at him and say: "One pair of 5's - with a queen!"


He looks at his cards, back at the board, back at me. Finally, as he mucks he says "Nice kicker"


I take down the 20BB pot.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how you guys finally describe me when I play against you the week after next (in L.A. and Vegas).

I guess with hands like this you didn't find the rake too prohibitive? How were they raking the 4-8 game? Did you play anywhere else in L.A.?


I will be in L.A. a week from Sunday and in Vegas two weeks from today, I want to have a plan of where to play. I have the plan for Vegas, but for L.A., I'm split between the Commerce and the Bicycle.

I LIKE your river bet. Great hand. This isn't at all surprising coming from a california cardroom. Who was obviously pissed (because they folded the winner) when you scooped the pot?

The bike is one of the few LA casinos I haven't played at. It is right down the road from Commerce. Frankly, the staff at Commerce is SO unbelievably good, that there is no way I will go anywhere else. By far the best staff I have ever seen at any casino. Their service puts the Vegas places to shame.

The kid next to me clearly folded a weak ace. I was extremely happy to see him fold the turn. He had been real pleased with himself for making a good laydown against me earlier and I think he thought this was another good spot. He was visibly disturbed, especially when the preflop raiser called and couldn't beat me.
