Is it possible for a winning player to have a 200 BB downswing?

Of course it is possible. Theoretically it is impossible to lose every hand for the rest of your life, even if you are a winning player. A better question to ask is how often a player with an EV of X and an SD of Y will suffer through a Z BB losing streak.

good point homer, but I'll be honest with you as often as I play I don't record results, I should though.
I'll start today, but as you know all poker players are lazy.

Figure your standard deviation. It'll help you out to figure what to expect in down/upswings. There's an article on this site by mason malmuth giving you the correct formula

Yeah, it can happen, but the more you lose the less likely you are a winning player at that limit. You may also lose your confidence, and losing will become a self-fulfilling prophecy. If I were you, I would move down in limits for a while.

I record every session, date, times, and buy in/cashout.

As of February 10th, I had dropped 200 BB's since February 2nd. Since the 10th, I've gained 360 BB's. Swings happen both ways; it's part of the game. And I actually have a lower SD than most players here.

I realized that is possible for a winning player to have a 200 BB downswing. Now that I think about, I think bad play has a lot more to do with it than just bad luck.
