I had KK raised pf - the flop came J 8 x with two spades
me and a somewhat passive guy capped flop and I called him down to ssee his trip 8s
would anyone have folded the cowboys?

Nope. It's unfortunate, but it happens. Just think of how you'd feel if you folded and he showed AJ or QQ.

How passive is somewhat passive? A lot of times the passive ones won't start raising until they have at *least* 2 pair. If he's one of those then I slow down and just call his first raise or reraise then check call through the river (and may even lay it down on the river if I don't improve).

These passive types can save you a lot of money if you realize what it means when they start raising.

Bugs is right,if he is tight/pass player and just starts to fire away at you I would put him on 2pr or trips and lay down on river. It all comes down to reading your opp and making the right call, sometimes you gotta lay those great starting hands down.
