Hi gang,

Recently sold my home in California and my wife and I are moving to Bellingham, WA. I know that there are a number of card rooms and casinos in WA State. Have any of you played in any of these rooms? How are the games.

I recently played at Seven Feathers Casino in OR, and found the games to be pretty loose passive. Hoping for the same in WA

It's been awhile since I've been in Bellingham (went to WWU for my undergrad years ago). But I do believe all Bellingham has to offer the poker players is one or two small rooms with small stakes. I would guess you'll see 3/6 or 4/8. Outside of Bellingham if you are willing to drive, then there is poker to be had in Canada (Vancouver) and down closer to Seattle. There is a big Indian Casino not too far from Bellingham (about 10-15 miles south) but last I knew it didn't offer poker.

I believe the Native American Casino in Anacortes (I am struggling to remember the tribe name...Suquamish?) has a poker room (probably 35 miles from B'ham). Farther south, Tulalip is Marysville definitely has a room (probably 40-50 miles from B'ham). I have heard tell of rooms in BC, but don't have any first hand knowledge.

Thanks for the referrals. Actually, Poker Pages lists all of the available rooms for each state and the limits offered. What I really want to know, is how beatable are they? There's a room in dt Bellingham. There's another one near there out in the sticks. The one in Anacortes offers 2/4 and the Tulalip offers 4/8. I was just wondering if y'all have played there.

Thanks,

Iggy

If you stink, the games are tough everywhere. If you're good, the games are soft everywhere.

I've played at the tulalip and I've come to really not like that room. They have like 9 tables going but the list is generally miles long and it takes days to get seated.

I have played at the Tulalip room a few times and have not enjoyed the experience. I don't think the game was necessaarily too tough, but I really dislike how the room is run, from the dealers on up. The rest of the casino is pretty nice for a non-AC/LV casino though.

Interesting that you say that. I called over there once to inquire about their game selection and the person working the poker room was very bitchy. I'll be sure to stay away. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I've played at the Tulalip a handful of times and I like it.

The games at $4/$8 are soft and the room is non-smoking (I've been smoke free since mid-december), which is good for me.

The rest is accurate, but get there on a Friday night at 7pm and in 30 minutes you'll find a game that, if you are decent, should be pretty good.

I haven't played in Bellingham, but I get up there at least every other weekend (in-laws). I'll definitely scope it out.

If I find anything of interest I'll post it here.

the casino that I know of that is closest to bellingham is the swinomish casino which is about ten miles west of mount vernon on 20 i think (towards anacortes). The card AREA is in the middle of the casino. I played a few hands there one afternoon while passing through on a tuesday or wednesday and it was full of old rocks and rockettes that wheeled ventilators around with them while waiting for the bingo to get started. Problably better at night but not so sure. Tulalip is a bit nicer by my experience than other posts say. The Grove, in everett is kind of a smoky dive w/lots of cappers and dick measurers (4-8 kill might be the biggest game). These are all the games I know of w/in an hour of Bellingham. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I saw this and took some time to think about it, and have to say that I don't understand your point. Are you suggesting that a loose-passive game is the same as playing in a tight aggressive game? While it's true that you can adjust your strategies in hopes of getting the best of it, I don't think for a second that playing in a game with a bunch of sharks is as easy as playing in a game with a bunch of calling stations. That's just wrong!

Now if you're suggesting that most live games in the area are about the same and are typically soft because there's alot of people playing too many hands and call too much, then I can accept that. But, if you think that a good player wouldn't have a problem in a tough game, then your comment is just arrogant and stupid. I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, though. /images/graemlins/cool.gif

Seriously,

I was being wise but if you haven't noticed we are in a serious poker boom. Between what I've seen/heard every pratically game is going to be soft for an above average person.

Absolutely, and that's what I'm counting on. So I was right in understanding that you're saying that the games are loose-passive and therefore, beatable!

Thanks for clearing it up. I have to say though, that there are many clubs around here with alot of manicle play that can cause some serious bank roll flux if you're not careful. That's the reason for the question.

Coquitlam, Richmond (both just outside of Vancouver) and Vancouver all have games. Coquitlam is 6-12, and there is 4-8 in Vancouver. Nice non-smoking rooms, and closer to Bellingham than you would think.

I used to play at a sports bar called The Slo Pitch went I went to grad school at WWU. Its at Sunset Square. Used to have 3-6 and 4-8 HE. No one (including me, then) was any good. Very soft late at night, I remember. There was also a small room in a hotel on either Lakeway or Samish Way (can't remember which) but I would be surprised if it was still open.

You fly fish? If not, you should learn. B'ham is a wonderful place to live for flyfisherman.

Tulalip is probably you best bet as far as staying in WA.

I havent played in any of the Vancover games so I dont know about those, however I hear they are full of action.

Tulalip is a nice card room, sure the staff isnt top notch, but most of the dealers are good. The action is good, the 10-20 game is pretty good. The 15-30 game borders on insanity when the right mix of players sit.

They also get an O/8 3-6 kill game going on weekends.

Non-smoking Poker room

FREE BOTTLED WATER...

And good action, what more do you need?
