Heard Huck Seed Was Broke

I guess he did well in Tunica but the gossip I heard was that he went broke and was playing middle limit hold'em at the Bellagio.

I played 30-60 HE with in Tunica...that seems to be middle limit from Huck's viewpoint.

Hope things went well. Would love to hear about it.

Saw him in AC in December playing 30-60 and 20-40...he stayed for a few weeks after the tourney I think. He is one TALL human being.

the important thing is that huck is a really good person and deserves the best. but being a hard core gambler and great player he will be in and out of big money all his life. thats the choice of a gambler. still most people live their whole lives and not do the things he has done or enjoyed.

Look what it did to Stu the Kid and most of the suckers in Las Vegas. Last time I checked, doesn't Las Vegas have the highest rate of suicide?


You are certainly a winner in your profession, but your comment makes little sense to people who actually enjoy their days jobs and the peace it brings.


Gambling should be reserved for enjoyment at low betting limits for most people (99.9% of the population); the other .1% (you included) know what it takes to win...and those winnings are usually at the expense of the 99.9% who have no clue.

How is 30-60 'middle limit' to Huck, when he plays ( at least used too ) some of the biggest cash NL Hold-em games in the world. I had heard he was down in Costa Rica playing NL down there for some time..

gambling is trading risk for reward, thats all. with poker, its money and your time. in what you do maybe its crossing the street against the light to get to work on time so you dont get fired. its all the same. and i think seattle had the highest rate of suicide once. because of the rain. another risk reward. jobs and good safe living conditions verses rain and depression for some.

The bottom line is gambling chews up and spits out a lot more people than it helps. Like a lot of gamblers, you want to romantize it and glorify it like you live some sort of grand life adventure with unbelievable highs and some occasional lows. Dont get me wrong, I am a gambler also and overall enjoy the lifestyle, but I have seen too many people ruined by it. Lets not try to paint it as something it is not.--Big Al--

How many people do we hear about getting killed or badly injured by getting run over in an effort to avoid being fired? How many do we hear about whose lives are ruined by gambling? If you do the simple math I think you'll agree it's ridiculous to say it's "all the same." (By the way, are you suggesting that hard-core gamblers are somehow less likely than traditional workers to get run over while jay-walking?)

Who's to say he wouldn't go broke at something else?? Stock Market, Real Estate, Landscaping, Whatever!!! Playing Middle Limit is still alot better than a high percentage of the rest of the world. He chose his life style and he's living it to the best of his ability TODAY!!!!!!! But this is gossip so WGAS!!!!

their lives get ruined by women, bad stock market decisions,and all kinds of things people do to try to improve their lot in life. gambling ruins more lives than it helps. thats because its a high risk way of getting what you may want. but players can also make the choice to take a low risk way up the ladder gambling, by learning all their is and playing within their bankrolls. just because they dont do it , isnt the fault of gambling, its the fault of people risking their money without doing the reasearch needed and understanding their capabilities.

I was right the first time. I was trying to reply to 2d when Paul almost simultaneously beat me to the punch, making me think I had posted in the wrong spot. But honestly, WGAS?

Huck could never afford to play in those big games he was playing in. He, to coin a phrase, was the "live one."


A few years back Huck got 6th or 7th in the "Big" tournament at Binions and immediately went to the Bellagio and blew all the money. I watched him do it. He played real high, real bad until he went real broke.


But, so what? He'll come back someday, and then everyone will say, "I knew he'd come back, he's a hell of a player."

I agree totally. Playing within your means is probably the key part of being a successful gambler. I make money consistently from poker because I resist the temptations to go for the big win.


I am not a true gambler at heart, because i only gamble on poker tables, blackjack very rarely (about one hour a year and only if the countis favourable), and sports betting on cricket, rugby, and yatching where my knowledge is high and i look for value.


People go broke because they take their whole bankroll to a game. I have never taken more than 10% to a game, and that was when i was just starting out (I have built a $16,000 BR from $300 in one year, and covered expenses including university fees).

I think the problem with gambling whether pro or recreational is psychological/emotional control or lack thereof. Basic human nature dictates that when youre ahead of the game at a certain point,say you're up $500, you want to try for 1K or conversely when stuck the same, you want to go on to try to recoup. Easier said than done,the "secret" to success in gambling is going against basic human nature that is knowing when to quit whether winning (tough) or losing (tougher).

Maybe I can get you to give me some tips for the six nations if you follow rugby that far north; I have an aussie friend who bets it, but like me knows virtually nothing...that's if you want to help one of your coarser neighbours...:)

You crack me up Mike. You really thought I was gonna talk a lot about that hand and I have hardly mentioned it to anyone. The one I talk is the pot limit HE game where I flopped top pair up against a set and we got it all in on the flop and I went card card to make a bigger full house on the guy.


The move Huck made against my K T is done often in our local 20-40 game ... the only difference this time was that it was against a world champion.


Mike, I really enjoyed playing with you while we were down there. Still, the funniest thing about whole trip was after playing a hand against your KK and going to lunch, having Tony from Canada say about you, "When that man raises he has a hand. He doesnt play like I do." I laughed so hard at that.


Again, it was nice to meet you. I hope we meet again at the next major tourney.

I have to agree. He was a gentleman at the tables I played with him.

Matt--It was great to play with you too. I really had a lot of fun. There is something about the games during the Tunica tournament that I haven't found anywhere else, they are just so friendly. Almost like a giant home game.
