View Full Version : A Major Leak in My Game! I think...

I was looking at the misc. stats that Poker Tracker has collected and saw something that really irked me. After 3,600 hands, here's the final hands I've had, and what I've made from them:

1. 4 of a kind: +$190.25
2. Full House: +$481.25
3. Flush: +$679.25
4. Straight: +$681.75
5. 3 of a kind: +$407.75
6. 2 pair: +$322.50
7. 1 pair: -$268.75

Also, my showdown % with 1 pair is 35.
Why have I lost so much with 1 pair? Has anyone else observed this phenomenon? I have absolutely no idea what to make of this.

I'm +$700 or so with 1 pair, with a showdown % of 46 or so, after almost 10k hands.

Perhaps you are calling down too much with 2nd pair/ pocket pairs with an overcard on board, etc. Either that or you just can't let go of TPTK/overpair when it's likely that you are beat.

3600 isn't really enough to be sure that it is a major leak, but it's likely.

i agree, you might want to muck middle pair earlier. I know that is one of my problems.

as i hate stat based posts...

work on handreading. make sure you're not overcalling too much when obviously you're beat.

Eh, that's *likely* nothing to worry about, and the reason is because of the way Poker Tracker collects data.

Anytime you have a pair (this includes the board) and lose money on it (this includes blinds, folding any street, and showdown losses), it is recorded as a loss.

Edit: It also counts pairs you "make" after folding. For instance if you lay down QJ on the turn, then J comes on the river, this is also counted as a pair you lose money on.

Wow, I didn't know that. I guess that makes me feel better...

But then again, Fluff, why do you think my showdown % with one pair is so poor (35)?

I'm pretty sure that's only true of Paradise hands. Pretend you are dealt 7s2c UTG, fold, and the final board is Ah Js 8c 5h 2d. The summary section of a Paradise hand history would say, "JTG didn't bet (folded) [7s 2c] (a pair of twos)". A Party hand history for the same hand would just say, "JTG balance $596,000, didn't bet (folded).

So, since all of the blinds that you fold at Paradise that end up making a pair are listed in Poker Tracker as a loss, you should probalby expect to see an overall loss with one pair hands at Paradise. If you show a loss at Party (after a significant number of hands), it's most definitely a leak that needs to be plugged. The obvious answer would be that you are paying off too much with losing hands.

Wow, Ulysses is going to be jealous; that's quite a buy-in for 3/6 or 5/10.

Peace,
