You're HU and know your opponnent has a small pair.

You can pick whatever non-suited, non-paired, overcards you want to play against her. What hand gives you the best chance of winning?

Will that hand be the favorite against any of the pairs, or will the pairs always be favored?

Answer to follow.

your question is not clearly defined, but 87o is a favorite over a pair of deuces.

I intentionally left it sort of open-ended. But if you want it better defined assume a pair of 3's.

Even against deuces what hand is the largest favorite? (or the smallest dog against 4's or 5's)

My guess is that JT is the best since it makes the most straights that are not interfered with by a small pair.

Bingo! Against a wired underpair it's as strong as you can get. Even against 99 it's still stronger than AK or KQ.

Just something to keep in mind if your heads up against someone, suspect them of possibly having a wired non-premiun pair, and are ready to muck that TJo /images/graemlins/smile.gif (but would happily play an AK)
