To be comepletely honest I have been playing poker for about two years, only one of those years have I stepped into a casino because im young and was only recently allowed to step into the 18 yr old casinos located in CA. However I do believe I have a chance at being a good player, but I was wondering what books are necessary to read to learn more about the game. I have never read any book or took any advice from anyone as of yet as far as poker goes, I have learned everything by playing the game, and overall I am up money, whether that be luck or skill who knows..
Anyways, if you do suggest a book to me, keep in my mind my game of choice is No Limit Hold'em, and no not because of the World Series of Poker final tourney, but because I like the idea of you my opponent losing all his money to me in one hand.

Sincerely,
a fellow poker player

Click on "Books/Software" in the column to the left. There are extensive discussions there on poker books.

There's also a beginner's forum (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=begin) that you might find useful.

Short form: Hold 'Em Poker by Sklansky (NOT "for advanced players"), Theory of Poker (Sklansky), and Winning Low Limit Hold 'Em (Jones).

Have you tried the online games yet? They are a great place to learn for beginners. Extremely low limits are available and you can move up as you build your bankroll. You can risk little while you are learning and experimenting. Also, no limit hold'em games are plentiful online. Perhaps they are also available live in CA, but I know that they do not exist in legal casinos around here (Toronto).

Feel free to contact me if you any questions regarding online games.
