Casino AZ $3/6 Semi loose table.

Suspects that made it to showdown:
CO - Mike E. Vegas
Button - Semi tight / agressive player

Mike E. Vegas dealt Q/images/graemlins/heart.gif Q/images/graemlins/diamond.gif

Folded to me, I raise, Button 3 Bets, blinds fold and I call. The plan is to check raise the flop if the board isn't too scary. Scary = a board that includes an A or K. I have no idea if this is a good plan, but its the plan I have.

Going to the flop 2 handed for 7 1/2 SB's

Flop:

5/images/graemlins/club.gif 6/images/graemlins/club.gif 9/images/graemlins/club.gif

I check, Button Raises, I raise and he calls. Ok, so I slowed him down. I feel at this point I'm up against a pair(8's-A's) w/ a club or A-k/A-q/A-j w/ a club involved.

Going to the turn heads up for 11 1/2 SB's

Turn:

3/images/graemlins/heart.gif

Alright, a nice blank. I bet and he calls.

Going to the river still heads up (I can't shake this guy) for 7 3/4 BB's

River:

Now what shoud I do here? I bet out and am called. Please be brutal on my play. I guess I'll adhere to the standard in place and post my results later. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

I would play it exactly as you did. The river bet is easy given he only called the turn. If he's aggressive, I doubt he has Kings or Aces.

In retrospect, I guess this wasn't too exciting of a hand to analyze. I was just shocked at the lack of aggression the guy showed. He had been quite aggressive earlier in the session, but played this like a school girl. I showed him my ladies and he turned over black aces to take down the pot. Would a better play here have been to call the flop bet and C/R the turn? I think this may have looked more like a legitimate flopped flush and I might have been able to get him to lay down his bullets on a river bet. Just a thought...

You played it alright.

I think there is close to 0% chance you are gonna make him fold.

From a probability perspective your opponent is much more likely to have overcards than an overpair to your queens, so unless you think he has to have a big pair to 3-bet you will often find opponents checking behind on the turn, depending on their level of aggressiveness and the consideration they give to your preflop raise, so may often end up giving a free card here whena turn chekc-raise fails.

Since you openraised and he has the A of clubs, its unlikely your opponent will give you credit for a flopped flush and old to a turn raise, and even without the Ac in your opponent's hand its unlikely enough to imagine you having a flush in this headsup scenario that most opponent's will call you down unless a 4th club falls.
