I am going to be in the San Jose, Cal. area Thanksgiving week. I have heard of Bay101 and Artichoke Joe's, what other card rooms can you recommend. Also commentc on the above rooms or any others will be appreciated (loose, passive,etc......games or rooms to avoid....etc).

Thanks!

What limits are you looking for?

Lucky Chances, in South SF, is probably the most well run cardroom in the Bay Area (IMO). 9-18: loose/passive. 20-40: either tight/aggressive or loose/aggressive.

Bay101. 15-30: somewhere between the above two LC games. 6-12: "way loose"/passive. Recently, rumors are that the club was forced by the City of SJ to close between 2am-6am and that that this was later repealed. No first-hand experience with this -- does anyone know what's going to happen in the future?

Artichoke. 15-30: similar to Bay101. 6-12: I've had minimal experience at those tables but they're the loosest tables I've seen at any limit.

Four major clubs that I can recommend:

- Bay 101 (in San Jose): Games include 2-4, 3-6, 6-12, 15-30, 30-60, and occasionally 30-200 spread limit. The 6-12 is very loose, and the 15-30 can range from extremely loose passive to wild agressive to absolutely boring on occasion. I really like this game! This is probably the biggest room in the area.

- Garden City (in San Jose): Games include low limit, 6-12, and 20-40 mostly. The 20-40 is generally a pretty good game, though it doesn't get as many players as the Bay 101 15-30.

- Lucky Chances (south of San Fran): Only played the 20-40 (pretty good game), but they also spread 3-6, 6-12, and 9-18. Apparently they get a no-limit game going one or more nights/week.

- Artichoke Joe's (south of San Fran): Only played the 15-30. Very good game. They also have 3-6, 6-12, and (I believe) occasionally spread a NL or PL game.

I believe each of these rooms has a web-site, so you can find locations and more info.

Bay 101 and Garden City are at risk for getting forced by the city to close from 2-6am each morning, but currently that's not the case (each room is currently 24-hours). I know that Bay 101 mentioned the closing on their site when it happened previously, so that should be a reliable resource.

My personal preference is Bay 101 in the South Bay and Lucky Chances up near San Fran.
