I have a question on slumps. I have searched the forums as to not waste everybody's time. There were great threads on the amount people lose, variance, cool graphs, advice to get out of slumps, etc.

Thanks in advance !!!!!

However, I did not come across how long in general slumps can last. At my worst point, I was down 150 BB (seems about normal) but over the last 1.5 months, I have been down the same 75-150BB (about 5,000 hands).

This is important to me because I have tried everything to get out of the slump (I reread the good books again, read every post here, play only one table, play pretty tight (almost too tight)...etc. etc.) and need to make a decesion: get out of $1/$2 to 50 cents tables, keep at it, or come to the realization that I am not good and maybe take up another hobby.

I am not trying to throw a pity party....I just want some feeback as to how long slumps are for everybody so that I can make an educated decision.

Well the official answer is a slump can last a year or more. Not normally though.

Longest slump I have hit is 3 weeks. I have not been playing for that long though so mine are probably not normal either.

I would suggest that you post some hands here that are bugging you. Let people analyse them and see if your play was wrong or not. It helped me a lot.

Also, there is absolutley nothing wrong with going down a level or 2 until things turn around. I recently abandoned 2/4 back to 1/2 because I was not ready.

Keep playing solid poker and you will win in the long run. Post some hands and let the experts here analyse them. Keep your chin up and don't tilt.

5,000 hands is a relatively small-time slump according to most players, but I would take the advice given in the last post to have you post some of your hands. Also mentioned was dropping down in limits to help get through a bad time, good advice.

In a regular live game at a casino I have never had a slump anywhere near 5,000 hands and I guess I must consider myself very lucky. However, since playing more online games I HAVE had a slump this long - in fact, I barely made a profit in January. I moved from $3/6 to some $5/$10 and played a few times at $15/30 where I got over my head, but the cards also ran poorly at $3/6 - so I struggled. If I look strictly at the $3/6 results I had about a two-week slump and thats 50 hours or about 8K hands (I was playing mostly 2 tables with some 3 table play). Hang in there.

If you have pokertracker, you might consider posting some stats. Being a little loose-passive can cost you a ton of money, so if you know your preflop raising and calling percentages, how often you win at showdown, and how often you go to showdown after seeing the flop, that'd help.
