Anyone have much experience playing in the San Diego area? I have played exclusively at the Viejas indian casino so far, but I would love to hear thoughts on the other cardrooms in the area. I tried posting this in the B&M forum but I think more people read this one. Thanks.

When I was activated I played alot in the San Diego cardrooms, with mainly good experiences.

Viejas is good and the 8-16 is great, especially on days when they have their drawing.
Lukcy Lady (near SD State) has a great 8-16 game and they rake less than most of the other places; they also still play lowball (ive heard but not seen) for those who liked those days (i wasnt around).
Sycuan (sp?) is exclusively low limit but is a nice room. Tourneys are well attended but they are crapshoots.
Ocean's 11 is my fav casino is southern Ca save the Bike; for a med size cardroom, it has great game selection. The 8-16k and 20-40 games are usually packed and good, and the 6-12k Omaha is good too. It also has all sorts of low limit tables.
Chula Vista has a solid 30-60 game but the players get away with murder as far as dealer abuse is concerned. I've heard that the 8-16k Omaha game is good but I never played it (list is usually HUGE). It also has some low limit tables but if you aren't playing either of those games there are better places to go.

All in all, I liked the cardrooms down there quite a bit (and I miss the weather ALOT). Too bad it's so expensive to live in So Cal.

I used to live in SD. I recommend the lucky lady on the corner of 55th and el cahon. It's small, only 7 tables last time I was there. But I was friends with the manager, daytime floor, the owner, and almost all the employees. I played there all the time for three main reasons:

A) I lived close, only two minutes away

B) I thought the place was well-managed

C) the daytime games at viejas generally sucked eggs, tho I sometimes went there after 2am when the lucky lady closed, in which case the night games were generally good.

Ironically, I never played at oceans-11, mostly because it was 30 minutes away with NO traffic.

The lucky lady tended to have very loose-aggressive games. There will be few total newbies or tourists, as most players are regulars. They CAN read hands pretty well, and you won't find the easiest games EVER there. However, I was able to keep a win rate over two years of 1.2 bb/hour at 3-6 and 1.1 bb/hour at 4-8. They generally spread up to 8-16, all games are full kill. You won't find stud there, but you may find a 3-6 omaha-8 game. Sometimes they spread bigger games on the weekends. If you want higher you'll have to go to oceans-11.

Please say hello to Terri, the georgeous daytime floor usually, and give her my email address, customcretecreations@yahoo.com. Tell her it's "dave in cali" and he still thinks she's the bomb.

lucky lady does have lowball, often at pretty high stakes, with 10-20 as the base and the "collect the kills" rule. I have NO IDEA how to play, or what the hell is going on in the game, thus I NEVER even played it once.

Sycuan, as I heard but never experienced first hand, has tight tight tight games. Also, it's on one of the most dangerous roads around, so dangerous in fact that I heard they stop serving alcohol there at some particular time of day, tho i can't recall what exactly I heard about it. Anyway, the other rooms are much closer to san diego proper.

In general the games in california are pretty much all wild and loose aggressive, except perhaps daytime in certain rooms, like viejas.

The tourneys at viejas are VERY much crapshoots, so bad that I eventually quit playing in them altogether.
