View Full Version : Rebuy/addon strategy?

I have only played online before, but I will soon play my first live tourney at the local casino. The structure is $50 buyin + $10 fee. 50 players. The game is either PL or NL Hold Em (I will probably choose to play a PL tourney). During the first hour, you are allowed to make unlimited rebuys ($50, no fee). And by the end of the first hour, everyone gets *one* chance to make an addon of $50 (no fee).

I usually play rather tight pre-flop. Should I loosen up in the first hour, and simply make a rebuy if I run out of chips?

And after the first hour, when (if ever) is it correct *not* to make an addon?

I have doing some research, and, usually, there are about 25-30 rebuys and 25-30 addons in these tournaments.

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks,

Jonas

Loosen up some during the rebuy period. Come with enough money to make rebuys whenever you need to. I will generally rebuy at every opportunity, unless of course I get going on an early lead. If the add-on gives you more chips than the initial buy-in, you should virtually always take it, unless maybe you have a TON of chips. If it's the same # of chips as the buy-in, purchase it unless you have a quite large stack.
