some of my party poker opponets think that 7-2 is the best hand against A-A, twice I have had opponets call monster preflop raises with 7-2 when I had A-A

but if your question was about what non AA hand has the best chance, it's 76s or 65s, i can't remember which, but it's so close i doubt it matters. offhand i would say 65s

The best hands versus your black Aces are:

1) red Aces (pick'em)
2) 65 suited in a red suit (about a 3-1 dog; couldn't get to
two dimes.net!)

You can catch a straight, flush (+ 2 pair, trips, etc.), and making your hand is much less likely to make his hand (for example jts could make 2 pair and lose to a str8).

I can do that with 76s, 87s and 98s too and that wouldn't help AA... why's 65s better than 98s?

Hi Yes that is right except if you do not hit your set with any other pair....you still tie with red AA........

so red AA still has the best chence.............

It's a very non-obvious answer.
Speaking about straights, with 56, the aces can only beat you with the broadway straight. If they get a wheel, you get a higher straight, 2-6. Also, if you get two pair, there is no way for the ace to pick up a straight without you tying.
With higher connecters, the Aces can beat you with broadway and a wheel. In addition, if you get two pair with many of these connectors, that only gets the Ace closer to making a straight.
Finally, with lower connectors, like 45s, you can get two pair, and the ace can still tie you with a straight.

TT does best against AA among pairs if I am not mistaken...the other pairs are slightly worse, with 22 being the worst. (I didnt check this but am fairly sure.)

Actually I believe the answer is 88 not TT because it allows for more straights.

TT was the answer for Sklansky problem for what hand you wanted vs. AA or AKs.

But why is 65s better than 76s? In both causes if the Ace catches the wheel, you've got a higher straight. Seems to me they should be the same.

It should be obvious to the more serious players around here like the Tubbster and someone else I know and love who was gonna answer this but had to wait to see if anyone got it yet, the Aces are susceptible to being beaten by a wheel, if 2,3,4,5 hit the board the 5-6 would kick its butt comprendo? I'm new to this forum. Are people always as rude and condescending as shutupndeal here? Cavalier asked a valid question and deserves a complete answer.

The reason 56s is better than 67s here is not obvious because its due to the likelihood of tied boards being dealt.

First, note that there are very few hands that 67s will win because the 7 is higher (for example, if a full house on the board like 66444, you'd win where if it's 66888 you'd lose. The 76s has 24 more winning full houses because 77555, 77444, 77333 and 77222 win while only 66444, 66333, 66222 win, etc.). In total, 76s will win only 55 more hands than 56s.

However, there are two specific boards that will tie AA when holding either 76s or 65s: 6789T and 789TJ. Because there are only three 7's available when you're holding 76s, there are only 576 cases where 6789T is dealt and 768 cases where 789TJ is dealt. In contrast, when holding 56s, there are 768 cases when 6789T is dealt and 1,024 cases when 789TJ is dealt. Taking into consideration the flushes and straight flushes (that give either you or your opponent a win), you still end up with over 900 more possible tied hands with these boards when holding 56s. These tied hands bring your expected value up to above the few extra winning hands from 67s.
