The SnG’ers got their own forum. Isn’t it about time the affiliates got one too?

This place is becoming more and more like r.g.p. every day and I’m finding that I sometimes get so disgusted with it that I just hit the “Mark all read” button rather than wade through the garbage, just like I did before I gave up on r.g.p.

What do you guys think?

I’m curious. Serious question for those who voted no: Why not?

Why do you come to this site if you do not like it.....just stay away I say.................LOL

most likely because they are affiliates who do not want to give up their free advertising that is allowed with the current set up.

As an affiliate, I think I would benefit from such a forum because it would allow me to post specifically about my affiliate deals (if I cared to). For this reason, I think poster "cubswin" is wrong in thinking that I get more "free advertising" in the current set up.

The reason I voted no is because I don't think these types of forums have worked for other sites. On www.bet2gamble.com (http://www.bet2gamble.com) (a very reputable casino site I participate in) for example, some very shady sites (Sports Interaction for example) post info about their affiliate programs in the affiliate forum. It is simply too much work for a forum moderator to check on the legitimacy of each and every program that posts a message/advertisement in the affiliate forum. The result is that a lot of honest people see these posts and end up setting up links for dishonest sites.

It also seems to me that there is a big difference between somebody who spams the forum with a post about their bonus code at Party, and someone who makes legitimate posts and has a signature relating to an affiliate site. Of course I am biased on this particular issue (and if you read my ratemypoo post you may not think my posts are legitimate /images/graemlins/grin.gif), nevertheless I think I make a cogent argument.

Thanks lunchmeat. That makes sense. Anybody else?

Agree completely. I have no problem with the sigs... i think it clears up the forum a bit.

I never said you get more free advertising in the current set up... but you will get advertising that is more likely to be read by the casual forum user. If you are not getting free advertising in the current set up why do i know that i should go to you for 75% kickbacks at online casinos?

I agree that this type of forum would get out of control. It would be so full of advertisements and "deals" that it would get ridiculous. The moderators here don't have time to wade through all of that garbage.

I wouldn't mind an affiliate forum if it was limited to discussion about being a affiliate, but I also think it would get over loaded with ads; especially over time when others found it and it would be impossible to patrol.

I do have a question about etiquette on the forum. I have answered a couple of posts where people were asking about sites or bonuses and put my UB name in as a possibility for the refer a friend bonus. I try to only do this when I have information pertaining to the question at hand and just add that info at the end instead of just flat out spamming the forum. Is this alright?

This is fine.

If you search the posts by David Gz...... (whatever his name is /images/graemlins/laugh.gif) True CEO you'll see he doesn't spam, but he also doesn't miss many chances to say when True Poker is offering what someone has asked to see.

The times it is wrong are when people blatantly go off topic on purpose so they can end their post with a promotion.

I think most of the regulars here know who is genuinely helping (Otherwise I've spammed about 15 sites in my time) and who is just turning things to their own advantage.

spam type sigs should be banned.

If you go to "My Home" and click on "Edit" of "Display preferences, number of shown threads, languages, colors..." you will see a "Yes/No" setting to "Do you want to view other user's signatures with their posts?"

So, in effect, you can "ban" spam-type signatures, yourself.

Of course, you will miss the occasional gem, but, hey, what you don't see don't hurt.

That’s what I fear is happening here.

I started this thread in a fit of temper following a dose of Cy(die)anide and it wasn’t really very well thought out. I still think it’s a problem and that the problem is increasing, but I really don’t have any answers.

Thank you all for the sensible input.

I guess I’ll just stay with Lori’s method ... I don’t like the whole affiliate mess (not just here - the internet in general) and personally will not participate, even if it costs me some money. It’s not a solution, but at least I know I’m not part of the problem.
