View Full Version : Chicago Area Hold'Em

What is the deal with Chicago area card rooms? The only one I can find that has hold'em is Hollywood Casino in Aurora. I'm not familiar with the Indiana casinos, but it didn't appear they offered hold'em.

I took a day off just to play HE at Hollywood, since the tables aren't open on weekends. Some regulation that they can only have so many tables open and with busy weekends, poker gets the shaft. Got there around 10:30AM on a Friday morning and was 5th in line for two 5-10 tables. SIX HOURS later I've moved up to 3rd in line. The table was closing at 8PM (again, the regulations), I didn't think I'd ever get on so I left.

I've mostly been playing online and a couple times in Vegas and never tried a B&M before in IL. Don't know if I will again. Are the waits like this elsewhere, where the players never move once on? Seems the Chicago B&M HE scene sucks.

Harrahs in E. Chicago{take 80/94 to the cline exit}spreads 20/40HE on down.they open 8am-5am.they no longer have boarding times. If you play 10/20or20/40they don't start until around1pm.saterday a great 10/20 starts around 9am.Sometimes they have three10/20s&20/40's going. They also spread smaller with bad beat jackpots.COME ON DOWN!

The above is accurate IMO.

The only thing to add is a better auto route would be Dan Ryan to Chicago Skyway to Ind Toll Road.

I believe this would be I90 all the way.

It's 30 min from downtown.

30 min. from downtown - in fair traffic. and if you're rockin the gas pedal. otherwise, in rush hour, say, i'd plan on an hour wait.

all the other info is correct.

i was quite glad i found out about harrah's. i had been playing at hollywood because it was all i knew about. but it sucked, the waits are ungodly, there are like 5 games at the most going at all times, and they close from fri. 8pm - mon. 9am. harrah's is a good place to play, overall. softer tables than hollywood, at any rate. unless you live near aurora, harrah's is probably closer to you anyways.

Under Illinois law, boats are only allowed so many "gaming positions" per boat. It's more profitable to use those positions for slots or table games, since profits from poker rooms are relatively small. They used to spread hold 'em and stud games at the Empress in Joliet during the week, then rolled in more slots on the weekends. Eventually, they just left the slots there. I haven't played at the Hollywood, but the games at Harrah's have been full every time I'v gone there. It might also be worthwhile to check out www.rockfordcharitablegames.org (http://www.rockfordcharitablegames.org). It's not a casino game, but there's a big tournament, several single table tournies and cash games. They're based out of Rockford, but the games move around the north suburbs as well.
