View Full Version : Where should I play other than Party?

I've been successful at Party and am playing 2/4. I've been at that level for a while, making good profit, but am still building skills to move up. I feel a bit uncomfortable with my whole bankroll at one site, and wonder how the games are at Paradise or UB. I tried Pacific today and the games are very fishy, but the software is limiting. I've been on Stars and the ring games I've been in have been rock gardens.

Paradise is another rock-garden. UB is tougher than Party but easier to beat than paradise and Pokerstars. At least that is what I think the general consensus is by most.

Why play anywhere else? Party is where the money is. If you are concerned with all your money being "stolen" by the site, don't be. It's probably safer than many of the places you have put your money in the past. If you are really paranoid about it you could try playing at empire and other party skins. The term skin means it's the exact same site (you are playing against the exact same players), but you are entering through a different "front door", and your rake goes to the good people at Empire instead of Party.

Because they charge higher rake at party than most other places, UB is in the bottom too.

I'll happily pay 1 extra small bet an hour if it means I get to play against Party players.

Although, when I've played enough to get my bonus at Pacific, I may try UB, just for some variety. I've been playing solid poker for 7 months now and after 30k hands, I'm starting to get really bored. Fortunately, when bored I play tighter because I am watching TV, working, or doing something more interesting, and don't want to be interrupted by anything short of truly premium hands. I miss reading others, but find I do fairly well just reading betting patterns and playing the odds better than the other players. Going three tables at once, I often notice little about the other players, unless they are total lunatics.

I don't understand the question. If you want to play somewhere else for variety, then it makes sense, and you've got some advice about other sites. But if your reason is really just that you don't like your entire bankroll sitting on Party, why not just withdraw some of it and keep it in Neteller? Or if that's still uncomfortable, in a bank account? If you ever actually need all of it faster than you can get it from a bank account to Party, you're tilting and the waiting period will be a good thing /images/graemlins/smile.gif.

I think its a bit of an urban myth that Paradise a rock garden. I think the games are getting looser, certainly at 2/4 the games are pretty soft and their software is excellent, I'd give them a try.

for the last 2-3 even 4 months games have been getting much much better at Paradise and PokerStars. You regularly see limit pot averages of 8-9 big bets if u monitor the games carefully versus 6-8 months ago...But you need to be game selective or you can fall into more tighish games than a usual Party game.
Short games at PokerStars are better than their full ring games-you can regularly see 6MAX games with 6-9 bb pot averages--and Stars also has the best rake schedule too!!-but then again honestly if you arent game selective you fall into tightish games more readily than at Party--watch pot averages and get in the good games!

In general Party games still are best by far but you can find better games now at Stars and Paradise then 3-4 months ago

Try True Poker, Intercasino, The Gaming Club, Poker Room UB. All tell you flop %% so you can pick and choose. Party is a good default and REALLY - there are looser tables then Party.

I can play 50% flops every night without coming near Party (which is 39%). Party being the fish palace is an urban legend. Yes - it's poor 100% of the time but there are much better places if you look around and pick and choose.

Take Intercasino - Yes - Hand per hour are 45ish but I play lasy night 60 hands of 45-50% flop in 2/4 OR 1/2 Euro (1.8/3.6). Plus you get payed $40 for your 1st 250 hands every month.

I won't pay limit games at UB if you paid me (and they do with their bonuses) the games are waayy too tight and aggressive. PL on the other hand...

I have accounts at the big four: Party, Paradise, UB, and Stars. Party is where it's at for ring games. If you love tourneys, you have to have an account at Stars. I used to be a Paradise guy, but that's when they were #1, don't go there as much (though more now that they finally have multitables). I mainly like UB because it's the only site I can connect to through my firewall at work /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Ask yourself a series of questions...what time of day, what limits, tourney or ring, short or full games...think of all your pet peeves...those are the deal breakers. The smaller sites often have some things that are unusual and would bug you.

If the fold button in the wrong position would drive you crazy...avoid Absolute...If you are on dial up, True Poker might not be your cup of tea, even though many love the site.

If you want to play multiple tables, and don't want multiple sites opened, you are probably not looking for any of the smaller sites. If you want rake rebates that are legal and or substantial, you can find those too.

If you want an actual prop job or are looking for RAZZ, or if pot limit/ no limit is your favorite, make your list and let people here help you with suggestions.

I do suggest you not download any site until you find out for sure how to get the best deals...sometimes just a download makes you ineligible for affiliate assistance, and sometimes you lose out if you open a play money account too.

Boy Tyler I think you and me are on the same wavelength.

I agree that Paradise isn't nearly as tough as people make it out to be. Plenty of tables over 50% seeing the flop.

UB however - You can be playing your "A" game and still struggle to get anywhere. I have 32 pending bonus dollars... Every time I try to get some bonus dollars, it usually cost me $10 to get $3 in bonus.

Agreed, and besides, why does everyone assume that "tight player" = "good player". Just as often it means "scared player".

Count me in as another who thinks Paradise's games are better than they were 6 months to a year ago although I havn't seen any 2-4's with 50% flop. Definately beatable though.

As for UB, well, the fish/game quotient is lower than the other big sites imo(including Stars) but the fish who are there are truly horrible. A little more patience needed there perhaps but I've done pretty well by exercising game selection.
