My College held a NL Texas Hold 'Em tournament... The way they set it up seemed kinda stupid to me, but I'm not sure how they normally set things up.

First of all, I thought the blinds were too high for a tournament... We got $20 in chips and the blinds were .25/.50. Isn't that pretty high for a tournament?

There were 175 participants, and they put people 7 to a table. To progress further in the tournament, you had to WIN your table. That seemed really unfair to me, because if two people are good enough to eliminate everyone else at their table, then they have to fight it out because only one can go further.

Another thing that baffled me was that the dealer sat out of the hand. And they asked us not to burn a card before the flop, but to do so before the turn and river.

Are ANY of these things I mentioned normal for poker tournaments? I'm guessing that the lousy Jesuits who run my school just don't know how it's done, so they made up their own rules.
