This is the web site of the year, hands down!

Go to the modis page (http://modis.gsfc.nasa.gov/gallery/index.php) , click on the small globe image that says "Enter the image gallery". A new window pops up with a satellite image gallery, with a search feature. Veeerrry cool images...!!

Search for your neck of the woods and enjoy...

For a taster, try this amazing one I found for all you US east coasters (http://visibleearth.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/viewrecord?3651). Choose the small or large image - big is way better. If you look down the very bottom-middle you'll see me waving at you from a small island /images/graemlins/smile.gif. This is what you really need your big high-res monitors for.

If you look closely at this one of the UK and Ireland (http://visibleearth.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/viewrecord?4458), you can just see Mike Haven getting out of the shower.

dogsballs lives here! (http://visibleearth.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/viewrecord?10162) (satellite pic)

just where the narrowest part of water exists between the airport part and the larger (and closer) of the two sparsely populated semi-enclosed islands to the east. I'm on the airport bit.

There's a bunch of houses there, but take it from me...I can see my house! Coool!! /images/graemlins/cool.gif /images/graemlins/cool.gif /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

(Edit: Actually a photograph taken from a spacecraft, not satellite - same kind of thing tho')

Talk about cool sites..for the waterman out there.I have known about this site for years..pics are just awesome.
I am a water-freak-surfing bodysurfing swimming etc.I lived in Hawaii and bsrfed many great spots from the Wedge-a dozen times to Pipeline,Waimea Bay,Makapuu and Sandy Beach on Oahu-every other day where i lived for 14 months early 90's.I now live near one of the few decent bsurfing beaches in central florida-Wabasoo.But it really sucks in compared to Hawaii and the Calif spots like The Wedge...all can be absolutly freightening but exhilarating..particularly the Wedge or North Shore..for some reaon I'm fearless in the water-but i've been hurt many many times-cuts from reef, boken ribs hahah but I love it. I have not bsurfed Boomers in San diego or anywhere in Mexico.I will someday soon.
i love this site: Ron Romanosky -The Wedge (http://www.romanoskyphoto.com/html/waves1.html)

specifically these pages: Wild Wild Wedge (http://www.romanoskyphoto.com/html/wild_wedge1.html)

and this one:More Wedge (http://www.romanoskyphoto.com/html/bodysurfing1.html)

Another great site if you like geography which I am fascinated by is the National Atlas webpage-use the interactive version--alot of fun to mess around with : Nationalatlas.gov (http://nationalatlas.gov/natlas/NatlasStart.asp)

Thanks gg1! Already sent on the waves site to some watersports freaks friends.

I tried to pick up surfing when in Bali in 2000. Same as you - did the fearless approach. Didn't get near good enough to try Uluwatu, but my pal I was with is pro level. The day we're due to fly back the 15 hrs to LA, he pranged himself on the reef on his last surf in the morning - so comfy trip for him..not! Then I found my passport/cash/etc all been stolen from the hotel safe box (cheapo pad), so I had to stay. I now carry around a new 10 yr passport complete with picture of disgruntled, chip-toothed, bashed headed surf rookie. Not my prettiest pic.

Get this!! Just a couple of hours ago, my girlfriend had a phone interview for a job in hawaii. She's getting a call back in about an hour. Hopefully good news. If she gets it, I'm outta here!!

I might be bugging you for info and lowdown.. /images/graemlins/wink.gif /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Excellent !!!
I lived on Oahu ..it was very very expensive and this was 10 years ago.I always think about moving back but after living in middle of Pacific -you can get island fever..it's only an issue if you decided to stay for extended time period thu...

I have not travelled in years. My latest plan is to go to Costa Rica for a couple of months.Investigate the poker scene, surf, ecotour thing and possible investment ideas etc..Hopefully breakeven with expenses by playing poker or spend a little bit living a very simple lifestlye I've though about buying land down there but know very little about it
I just put in a build order for a 2004 Toyota 4Runner..the young guy that sold it to in me Ft Pierce hooked me up with all kinds of info. on the best places to stay in Costa Rica-I was very lucky to meet up with this kid-bought it for 300 over invoice plus scored on costa rica scoop!!

waiting very impatiently for my new truck!!!

Let me know if I can help...neighbor. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Woohoo...going to hawaii!! Prob by march for me. the gf goes to work mid-feb.

Hey, gg, which is better - Maui or Hawwaii islands to live? Any comments? She gets to choose her placement after a couple of weeks on Oahu.

As for rock fever - won't be a problem. Try living a few yrs on a rock 22mi by 1 mi in the middle of the atlantic..! This is upgrading for me in that dept! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

good deal bro.If I could choose just one it would be Kauai..but you need to weigh many options.Living on Oahu is great because you have all the cultural advantages of a small city-Honolulu.Many museums,UofH at Manoa, decent music, restaurants, strip clubs-hehe-more urbane-more crime. But Oahu also is crowded but you can find perfection on any of these islands-if you are the outdoorsy active type.Kauai is less crowded. My best friend's brother lives on the Big Island of Hawaii-never been there.I am probably not the right person to ask since I've only been to Oahu and Kauai.I was a dj at University of Hawaii radio station-had a once a week like 2am -6am slot..what a blast---I used to crank all the stuff I liked back then mostly punk and alt.country--good place to follow up on education if need be.I am music fiend not as much but I still relish The Jayhawks,Morphine,Luna,Feelies,Posies,The Bats,Joe Henry,Freedy Johnson,Dave Alvin,Lucinda Williams-I mellowed out last tens years into a more Austin/adult mode..In mid/late eighties great punk music was coming out of OC,LA and Arizona-Green on Red,TSOL,Bad Religion,X -I worked for Atlantic Records for a bit..music and poker love em both.I'm 41 an old foggy so these tunes may not ring a bell .Good newish stuff I listen to .new for me at least /images/graemlins/smile.gif is: Iron & Wine,CatPower, new Jayhawks,Patty Griffen, new Flaming Lips Yo La Tengo and Aimee Mann -I've become a mellow middle-aged focker-very sad..oh well /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Mike I got Irish roots my last name is Donohue..I think the real Irish add like a Mc to the name seriously.. not joking.
I've been all over Ireland North and south.Hate to use this trite expression but it honestly is a magical place. The countryside is amazingly beautiful, people very friendly.

Yah, heard that Kauai is great, but not an option for us; can't choose that - just Maui or Hawaii. Only a year contract and not great pay - but possibility for continuation. So, hey, who can turn that down..!?... Looks like I've got to really get serious about online poker for a bit to be able to at least cover my side of things - me not being a US citizen and us not being married yet. Me just tourist, heh.

And, hey, if you've only just started becoming a middle aged focker, then you're doing ok!... I'm just a few years behind at 37. I want to see a picture posted of your new truck when it's there..!

oh baby ..90 more days...I'm too tall for the moon-roof so I had to do a build order for a 4x4Limited and supposedly they only build them in Japan-Same V8-thats in a LandCruiser and Tacoma but lighter and $25K less than a LandCruiser.Cant wait.I've had the same Ford Explorer for the last 10 years-guess it was about time for the old fock to splurge finally /images/graemlins/grin.gif

and another (http://www.toyota.com/images/vehicles/4runner/gallery/exterior/large/photo_29.jpg)

Excellent news on Hawaii-never been to big Island or Maui-Maui is hipper-artsy fartsy alot of old rockers live there.Cant go wrong either way-but I would say Maui-the girliefriend may dig it more also.More cosmopolitan than Big Island.
Enjoy whatever you do.And dont drop in on any Hawaiins surfing or bodysurfing--they will call you outside the water to kick your ass..most of em aint small either-hehehe /images/graemlins/mad.gif

I live in Vero .I regularly hit up Ft.Pierce Inlet or Spanish House..a mile north of Sebastian Inlet.Stuart and Reef Road go off on strong northerly swells..up by me here it s usually consistent 1-3 surf except for the death zone -summer.Inlet is a Zoo with guys your age and younger-too crowded and aggro for me.Ft Pierce is one of the most consistent waves on the east coast.
If I were in Gainesville I think i'd hit New Smyrna/Saint Augustine area.I've got a bunch of links if you want them but I'm sure you got most of them..

Legend27
01-24-2004, 07:18 AM
Yeah I've got all the links. I usually go to the Flagler Pier when I'm around Gainesville. My Grandparents have a house at Cocoa Beach so I go surfing there a good bit too.
