View Full Version : Still in the red for 2004 (caution...venting post)

Honestly....this is some sort of sick joke. Nearly 12,000 hands and im still seeing red. I have started to question my game when i know i shouldnt. I dont know if it will ever turn around. I jumped into today with much enthusiasm all set to chase down lucy jones. Last month i did lucy for 4 straight days /images/graemlins/grin.gif and showed a profit of more than $300 for each of these days. Today, with 15 minutes to go im down $200. My favorite moment of the day was having KK on two SH tables at the same time and having both busted by pocket aces. Had 3 straight flush draws today....struck out like casey. AK flops QQQ....AQ flops KKK....sets fall to river gut shots....blah blah blah. I guess i just need to vent....i seem to be doing a whole bunch of it lately...maybe its because im still seeing red. UGH UGH UGH....just went to see my poker income from last to remind me ill win over time but it just makes me think of taxes.....UGH UGH UGH... anyway....i guess its off to the gym and then some cold ones to drown my sorrows.

Hang in there! It will turn around very soon. If it bothers you too much take a day or two off and do something relaxing.

It sounds like you are on tilt. And when you're on tilt, I have found that the best thing to do is to go up at least 2 limit levels.

i hear ya. nov and dec rocked. jan sucks.
re-reading sklansky and also going back to some more basic, non-fancy play (kind of lee jones-ish i guess).

TT greets flop of TJJ.
opponent shows me JJ.
that one is my favorite thus far.
you, me davidross, and everyone else on the fora, will hang in there and it WILL turn around.

hey, my 97o in BB just flopped an 86. turn brought the 5 for nut st8. maybe the turnaround has officially begun.

looks like you and me are in same boat for 2004 so far. i won about $3000 in 3 months last year. as of right now, i have played about 17k hands this year, and i am down almost exactly $100. this is only 25 bb at 2/4, but still 17k hands, and i am losing! river after river after me having kings against aces and i am still down 25bb. it is killing me. just wanted to let you know you aren't alone. don't give in to the temptation to tilt. i did this a couple times and it is the only reason i am still in red. i would probably be up about $200 right now if i had kept my cool. by the way, thank you so much for reminding me about lucy jones bonanza. hopefully it will help me get out of this rut. hope your luck turns around.

I hear you. Having a bad run this week, everything seems to get busted. Doesn't help that I had a great week last week (+200 BB) so probability is catching up with me as well.

Makes you start to make questionable plays and then have to work to make it back up. My trend over the last few days is to lose about 30 BB in an hour, make it back and call it a day. Hang in there.

Just got back from the gym....had a nice run and a relaxing sauna so im much calmer now.

Thanks all for the advice/input. Its good to know im not alone...misery loves company. Ill just keep chugging along doing my thing and it will all end up all right....in the long run. I guess the positive for today is that although i finished down 160 lucy kicked me back 80...so i guess it is not that bad of a day.

hoping for some better luck (and maddax to sign)

I'm in i similar situation, from december to now. Not losing that much, but neither do I win. A good day of +200 is followed by a couple of bad days, and then it starts over again.

When running bad it's easy to remember those hands you actually played well but got cracked anyway. It's also easy to forget those hands you played not too well. As hard as it may be to say that you have played bad ("WTF, I'm good at this!"), as good it is to drop your face and realize this is the case, if that is the case.

When I'm running bad I think I'm tiliting, if ever so slightly that it's hard to spot it. I don't play more starting hands, but I tend to continue on the flop more than I normally do. A small increase of this percentage is hard to spot, but it could add to much money over time.

I had my best month eve in December. I was winning 10BB an hour on a consistent basis in my regular game. Oh what a month. I started playing in August last year and realized over half my profit for the year in December. My biggest problem in January was unreasonable expectations or the feeling that I really got this thing down now it's all easy money.

Then comes January and I couldn't win a hand if I got four cards in my starting hand. /images/graemlins/confused.gif I tried playing on different sites just to get a change. Same thing. I was in full tilt by this time. Finally took a couple days off. Did some reading poker and other. Came back in a better state of mind took a few more days of loosing, adjusted my play a little and waited the storm out. I am not even for the year yet but a lot closer after the last couple of days.

I must admit at 36 years old I have learned more about myself playing this game than any other time in my life. I find my self in situations at work or other and I am asking myself questions like "Am I mad because of something this person did or am I mad at myself?" or "Am I emotionally capable of handling this situation well or should I wait until I cool down?" Sometimes it's kind of scary.

Maddux to sign. With the Cubs? How much pitching do you guys need? Can the Cardinals have your sixth and seventh starters then? If the Cardinals get Maddux they only need a left fielder and a second basemen to compete with the Cubs and Astros! I will probably be wearing my new Cubs shirt alot this summer!

To all who arnt already sick and tired of hearing me complain-

My hair has started to grey and fall out in places as my losing streak continues full steam ahead. I have now had 8 straight losing sessions... sessions of at least 500 hands or more. I am -160 today (after 5 hours of 3 tables....2 at 1/2 SH and 1 at 2/4) and am -800 at party since the first of the year....it would have been $980 if not for a reload and lucy jones bonus. This has been mostly at 2/4 and a little 3/6 and 1/2 SH. I have shown modest gains at UB, ICP and Stars but this only makes up for about 1/3 of my loses at party. Here is a hand that put me in a cheerful mood today.

Losing all
01-27-2004, 02:40 AM
I know playing .50/1. sucks for serious players, but I can't think of a better way to pump up lost confidence than making 10+BB an hour against the worst poker players in the world.

You can play three tables, get bad cards, make some stupid mistakes, and still pull a profit. Not to mention the bonus 20BB's from jucy lones(I even held onto 60th tonight.) 85BB's +40 bonus =$125 not bad for the lowest possible risk factor you'll find in poker. Not that I'm scared of risk, or that any of you losing streakers are either, but this might be a way to work out of your funks.

GL to all in the red...

Right now id find a way to lose even at .5/1 /images/graemlins/crazy.gif Even with my bad luck ill take my chances with 2 2/4s and 1 1/2 SH. It SHOULD be worth $24 an hour plus the $40 .... or somewhere in the $250 neighborhood for 9 hours of work. Somehow the math just inst working for me right now. I agree though, it is a good play for a low limit player.

thanks for asking. things have turned around quite nicely. i came in 4th in a $50 multi not too long which gave me a boost (i dont play them all that much). i have switch things up a bit recently and have been playing lots of SNGs and some Omaha hi (at my secret fishing hole) and have had some luck at these. i really like the low variance of these games. anyway, back to some cheapo SNGs for me... im trying to make this my first 1k week of the year.... ive got my work cut out for me /images/graemlins/smile.gif
