View Full Version : Your worst preflop cards ever?

Kind of like the worst losing streak thread.

Last night I played 3/6 at a B&M for 4.5 hours and got AKs once, AJs once, JTo twice, and 88 once. That was it. Everything else was not playable under normal preflop calling rules. Of course I lost the money I came with from chasing cards, mostly from the BB. Occasionally I was able to bluff and win a pot with my crap cards since people thought I was so tight- but that was just table scraps.

This was absolute torture playing 5% of hands preflop at a B&M. I think I saw every possible combination of offsuit low cards at least twice. I had to reassure myself that high cards exist. I saw the river THREE TIMES in 4.5 hours. Lost all three too. I have no stories about my folded cards hitting the flop either, they all missed too. I am convinced that a LAG with my cards would have lost over $1K last night.

This really makes me want to play online more since folding 30 hands in a row preflop doesn't bother me there.

Is this common at a B&M? If so, man, I'm sticking to mostly online play.

I had one live 20/40 session where I didn't win a hand for the 1st 3 1/2 hours that I had sat down.

Had AA once and lost to a rivered set of 8's; had JJ and lost to a rivered flush, pretty much folded the rest PF. It happens from time to time. When that happens, I try to remember the days that I flopped set after set and the draws seemed to always get there.

If you mean is it common to get a string of bad starting hands in a B&M, then the answer is: not anymore than it is at an online site.

It sure feels longer and becomes more boring at a B&M though. You only get dealt about half the hands you would online because things are moving that much slower at a B&M. On the upside, games are often much softer since other people also get bored and start playing worse and worse hands.

That is one thing that kind of rubs salt in the wounds... knowing that even if you played your crap hands they NEVER hit. It's like you could take every hand to showdown and would never have the best hand. I feel for ya, I've had a similiar B&M session, but I just think online play has spoiled us a little bit.

My worst preflop cards were last week on Saturday night.

AKs
AKo
ATs
AA
KK
QQ

Did not win a penny with them. Last hand was KK with a rainbow un-straight-able board that got beat by a rivered ace against A3o.

Joy.

Same thing happened to me on Sunday, i was never lucky enough to even get AK though. The best hand I got was AJs

That's nothing. I played at Bellagio 4-8 for 4 hrs, won 0 hands, only hand above group 4 I got was JJ, it flopped trips, and someone turn the bicycle straight with 42o (they called my pf raise cold). That was the only decent preflop hand I got.

I don't know the exact numbers because I wasn't counting, but I remember a day last year in the 4/8 at Foxwoods when I played something like 5 hands outside of the blinds for almost 4 hours. I was a lot tighter back then, but I still expect that to happen many more times in my poker-playing life.

Careful now...you can't let folding bother you. Nothing makes me happier than watching the preflop calling standards of my opponents detoriate over the course of a session. Happens every time I play in a casino.

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking here. The distribution of cards you will receive at a B&M poker room is no different than that you will receive when playing online. The only difference is that when playing live bad streaks seem longer because you get less hands in per hour.

I had a 4-5 hour (i forget exactly) where I never had an ace with a 10 or higher, never had a suited ace, and the one hand that was good- QQ I folded on the flop cause i bet into an ace and got raised and re-raised.

playing at B&M is way more frustrating...that's why I think i actually play better at 3 tables, i don't have to wait long for a playable hand.

I got the cards and it still didn't help.
5-hour 2/4 B&M session Monday, 0-4 with AA, KK, QQ, and AK suited. Lost to flopped sets every time. Didn't win a pot in the last 2 hours. My last hand was QQ UTG which I raised, only to be called by ALL 8 players.

What I'm talking about is the physical aspect.

First of all, you get at least twice as many hands playing online if you are playing multiple tables. Secondly, you can do other things or walk away from the computer. I don't usually play online for more than 2 hrs at a time.

Spending 4 1/2 hours of your life sitting in a chair folding 95% preflop is not my idea of a good time. It's torture.

I've spend about 70 hrs playing B&M, and this was about my 10th trip. If this kind of thing is commonplace, I'm probably going to focus on playing online.

It is commonplace. You haven't been playing that long so you haven't experienced it, but you will if you continue. If you can't deal with it you have two choices: stop playing poker or stop trying to play well and play any two cards.

I've been playing holdem for 5 years and this has happened to me so many times I've lost count. Going 5 or 6 hours without winning a pot hardly bothers me any more. I once spent two days at Foxwoods and played about 18 hours. On two consecutive days I went 7 hours without winning a pot and was dealt largely junk hands.

Its painful, but if it weren't for sessions like this winning wouldn't be so sweet.

Online the same stuff will happen, but it doesn't hurt as much and will usually be over quicker.

Don't let this discourage you from playing live. You can't suceed in poker without experiencing some pain.
