This past weekend I had a great time playing a couple of concerts with Edgar Meyer. For those of you who don't know his stuff, he's a virtuoso double bass player. That is only a part of the story though. Edgar is also fluent in what I guess you would call rural American music (bluegrass, country, fiddle). I've been told he won the fiddle competition at the Telluride Bluegrass festival a long time ago (playing bass). He also composes and his compositional style reflects a big influence from bluegrass and fiddle music. He's frequently writing for and bringing together top musicians of both idioms to create some wonderful stuff.

He's often pigeon-holed into the classical section of stores but don't let that deter you if classical music listening isn't your thing. Give it a listen and I hope you enjoy.
