I have never played so tight and lost so much in 3.5 hours. Damn.

A drop in the bucket. Check out my post "One night Stands!!"

You can and will lose much more than this in one nite...even playing tight and proper.

Losing 23 BB's is 3.5 hrs is fairly common, even for a solid player.

Read davidross' posts in the General section and you'll feel the pain that even pros go through. He's had 3 200BB losses this year already I believe. Although I haven't been through the extremes he has, I've certainly come close enough to start doubting my game.

Baulucky -

No reason for concern, that's 2 pots at most tables (Paradise .50-1.00). My biggest loss is 65bb's in 4 hours. Luckily the deck ran over me the following session 4 hours +125BB. Hang in there and play well. Usually these games are weak/tight with 2-4 solid players at each table. Soon you'll recognize the regulars (sharks). Last night I saw a regular $5-10 player slumming the .50-1.00 paradise games. - lol

I can't say that I have much sympathy my friend, hah hah. Not that it doesn't suck to lose, and I feel bad that you lost, but man... that's not even one buy in! I wouldn't worry too much. Just play it up.

Bau,

23BB's does'nt get the water hot. 200 BB +/- swings have happened to me several times. I only play the microlimits and I know that I am not that good. But the schooling effects are real, and Etilt is easy to fall prey too, which normally for me results in terrible dents to the bankroll.
I like to have 500 BB's for the level I am playing at. I know it seems like a lot, but the swings are extreme for me, so........

Thanks for all responses. I think gamboolman hit the nail on the head: schooling. THIS is the reason I make more steady gains at a 6 player max. table than at a full ring. Maybe the full ring has bigger EV in the long run, but the flucs are greater with so many people taking it to the river. I know I wasn't tilting and I know I wasn't giving free cards to anybody when I had top pair or better...

I prefer steady up than riding the flucs.

Now I just want an instant positive fluc, and I want it NOW!. LOL.

Thanks Gamboolman, apparently there is a name in poker for everything. Schooling was it.

I always hear about the 300BB rule - and if that works for people, great. However, I use the same bankroll as you, 500BB for each game I am playing (I play 3 games of $3/6) so I actually have a 1500BB bankroll.........usually gives me peace of mind. I dropped 125BB on the 18th and 19th combined, so 23BB doesn't sound like a drop of water to me. of course having the larger bankroll helps.

Posts like these reassure me that when I drop $13 playing .50/1 in 40 hands without winning one, it's really not that uncommon.
