I am headed to Wendover Neveda so my husband can play with his car at the Salt Flats. While that is going on what is the best casino to play in and are there any regularly scheduled tournaments that are played there?

Thanks for your help

Only one with poker, the Rainbow. Call (775) 664-4000 and inquire about rates with the poker room. The manager is named Dan Hill. The room is excellent about taking care of the players. If you already have reservations somewhere else, stop by anyway. (You will cuz it's the only poker room) Friday night they have a freeroll holdem tourn. I'm not sure about the weekdays, but I think there are some other tourns. You want to be in the main game which goes on the weekends and is either 15-30 or of late 10-20 w/ 1/2 kill to 15-30 (200 pot causes kill, killer acts in turn preflop). Then maybe you will be able to butt heads w/ a couple of us who post here and talk about golf too much at the table. Lower limit games include 2-5 w/ kill and 5-10 w/ kill. Tell us when you'll be there. I think you will like it. The poker room is new, there's a new area with the sportsbook, a bar, the poker room and a new restaurant that wasn't quite open the last time I was there. Smoking is allowed, but the new ventilation is good. New restaurant is a prime steak type place. Buffet and coffee shop are both pretty decent.

Thanks for the info. 2-5 is more my limit right now while I am still learning and until I can build up a bank roll sufficent to play at the higher limits (hubby keeps spending it all on his toys :-))

We will be getting in Friday. What are requirements for the free roll they offer on Firday? Do you have to play so many hours etc.?

Thanks again for the info.

Didn't know you played in Bend-over. I head out there and play once a month or so. I play the low limit though. I'll try to say hi to you next time if I can figure out who your are.

The Friday night used to be a $30 buy-in. I played in the free-roll this past Friday, but thought that was just for the "grand opening" of the new poker room. Have they changed it?

They also have a cheap Hi-Lo Omaha tourney on Thursday I hear. 10 buy in, 5 dollar re-buy. I haven't played in this.

Kethry, be sure to take your sunglasses. Not so you can look cool though. The new room is blanketed in neon lights and reflective silver. I played 18 hours this past week-end and had a horrendous head-ache.

Hey, if hubby can join the 200mph club or whatever on the salt flats, you can play some 15-30 I say. 2-5 game is pretty good. The combination of spread limit and the kill game changes things a bit. When the game is 2-5, you need spread limit strategy, i.e. limping for $2 on occasion when you couldn't limp in a structure game, but folding to those $7 raises because of reverse implied odds. When it's a kill it becomes a structure game of 5-10. This sounds a lot more expensive, but remember, the players who win the most big pots will be posting more kills. Thus, it shouldn't be you too often. So you get to play some 5-10 for cheap blinds.

As far as the tourn, you just need to get there early enough for a seat. I forget what time it starts. Sign in by 7:30 I think, but call ahead if you can. I usually miss the tourn and play in live games after I get there. Abagadro thought the tourn was only a freeroll for grand opening, but I think they are going to have it for a while. I could be wrong, but they had the freeroll the weekend before grand opening and I think a dealer mentioned they would keep it a freeroll for a while. If it reverts to a buy in tourn, it will be a low buy in.

I will probably be there friday night through Sunday morning. Not guaranteed but probably. I sign up for lists as "John B" ask the poker room manager if the John B from Idaho is there. I try to play the big game, but if I can't get a seat you might see me in the 5-10 w/ kill. Probably not the 2-5, but sometimes.

See above post. If you know Bill Murphy you can ask him if I'm around too. And Bill put his picture out there for people to see. I'll spare people. I'm your basic fat white balding lawyer.

Do you practice in SLC? I'm currently a young, fat, full-headed lawyer there. I'll try to say hello when I'm out there next time.

No, I'm in Idaho not SLC.

Odds are getting worse that I will make it down to Wendover this weekend. Long story, but I just got home from work @ 12:30. Yuck. Anyway, have a good time and post a report. I might make it, but probably not.

Thanks for all the info. I am headed out the door now for the 22 hour drive ahead.

I play in Wendover a dozen times a year. The Rainbow is the only poker room in town and I enjoy the spread limit kill games there. If anybody plays there, I would not mind saying hi to ya.
