My wife and I will head for 1 week to Banff and afterwards 4 days to Lake Louise next saturday. We will do some snowboarding, take a dogsledge ride, snowmobile tour and I´ll go heliboarding for 1 day. We´re really looking forward to this trip. As you can see the main purpose of the it is obviously not to play poker. Anyway, since we do rent a car we might as well make a trip to the Elbowriver Casino in Calgary. I´ve recieved this adress from a 2+2 poster a while ago, and wanted to say thank you for this information.

Does anyone know which limits they do regulary offer? On their homepage they mention something of a monthly tourney. Anyone has some details?

BTW, one more thing I´m curious about: Do you guys wear swim dresses in a sauna in Canada? I come from Austria, and a sauna is a nude zone here. In the USA you have to wear swim dresses in a sauna, as far as I know. Well either way, it can be embarassing when you go to the sauna with a swin suite, when you are supposed to be nude, and even more so when you go naked and there are swim suits required /images/graemlins/laugh.gif (Obviously I can ask this question in the hotel too, but with all the snowboarding and other dresses we´d be happy to leave as many items as possible at home /images/graemlins/wink.gif )

Best regards

you will find a 10/20 holdem canada dollars, or maybe a pot limit omaha on weekends which will have the best action as i understand. no naked butts or tops on ladies. not far from banff is outside hot springs. lake louise has a nice ice skating place.

Hi again Martin,

I remember giving you some info a while back, but wasn't sure you received it. Your freedom to travel keeps you busy(and me jealous - haha). From your posts I see you have been nomadic. Lucky too, I hope.

My Sept 29, 2003 post gave some info on Calgary and the Elbow Casino. Here's a direct info link for the poker room there. http://www.elbowrivercasino.com/poker.php
We're talking cowboy country here. Most dress is casual. You will see a lot of blue jeans everywhere, except in the fancier dining spots. Wish I could join you and meet you but work intervenes.

Good luck, happy, safe skiing and boarding. Oh and bring your swimsuits - we're casual but not THAT casual(smiling).

Hi Rainbow Warrior and Ray,

thanks for your informations. We´re really looking forward to this vacation. From what I´ve read in the internet this area seems to be wonderful.

PLO is most probably my worst game (not that I´m an expert in the otehr games /images/graemlins/smile.gif ), so I might better stick to the 10/20 HE.

Well, we stay at Fairmont Springs Hotel, and I´ve read that all the restaurants there have a resort dress code, which means jacket, no jeans, no sports wear. I guess we´ll be dining out most of the times /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hello again Martin,

This was refering to the City of Calgary itself, home of the well known Calgary Stampede every July and referred to by us rival (jealous?) northerners as "Cowtown".

I'm not easily offended - I play micro-limit on-line poker!!!
Compared to most Europeans, we ARE prudish. Generally, we are also friendly, honest and direct.

I should tell you that here in Alberta we have a strong provincial identity, an attempt to be independent from the central Canadian power base. Politics. Banff, though it is in Alberta is a 'National Park' under federal direction and seperate from Alberta in many ways.

The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel (NOT to be confused with the Fairmont HOT Springs Hotel which is 100k further west) looks very nice. Hope you love Banff. I sure do. The skiing in the area had an excellent start to the season snow-wise, but I haven't heard of a lot of fresh stuff lately. Maybe when you're there.

All the best,
Dan
