I posted my 1st session online in micro-limits. I did not raise at all. I have played before in the local casinos and I found that people never respect raises and maybe one person will fold. Dumb players don't know when they are beat before the flop and then they beat me after the flop and I raised into it.

When I play at a local place (not casino) with people I know I often raise and get respect, I can even bluff a preflop raise and get respect. These players are bad also but not as bad as the casino players.

How can one know when to raise against really bad players when they don't know when to quit. On all my hand that I should have raised and called/folded later I would have lost because of stubborn players.

Maybe I read this wrong bu in the TH4AP it says not to raise loose soft games so people don't play better, not to drive them off, and not to have them turn in to the old "oh yea well I will reraise you no matter what you got" sort of players.

Suggestions to clear my mind?

Al

you raise to get more money in the pot when you have the best hand which should be most of the time because you should be playing tight and have a better hand to begin with. i think you are mixing up the words raise and bluff in this question.

Long story short - You should raise very often pre-flop. If you don't you will not win in the long run. Yes, there are some hands you might not want to raise in a loose game, but you should still be raising quite a bit.

You don't want them to respect your raises, you want them to pay you off when you make your hand and their chances are slim.

With all due respect, from your posts it looks like you are not clear on some very basic stuff. Put HPFAP aside right now, you need to learn some basics first.
