A friend recently introduced me to a great home game, but am having trouble deciding the best strategies. Any help is appreciated.
Most of the players are very weak. Very few raises, a couple play too tight, most play too loose. All have casino experience, but I can't honestly think they're long-term winners, with one possible exception.
They play three games - hold'em, Omaha (high only) and 7-stud. But the betting is where it gets weird...
Betting starts to left of the dealer in Omaha and Hold'em. You can bet between $1 and $5 at any point, but it costs $1 to enter the pot and there's no money in initially. Essentially, first to act is limping or betting into an empty pot. Most flops get seen my virtually everyone, unless someone raises.
Also, the betting is not positional -- betting begins with the last bettor/raiser. Stud works more normal, low-card bring in and high hand starts betting.
AND... then sometimes they play a round of hold'em, which they play with blinds of $2 and $4 (and betting is positional). So then there's $6 to start with and you can make it $9 to go, but still can only bet a max of $5.
Most times, no one bets the max. You see many $2 and $3 bets into large pots b/c many limp in the 2/4 blind game.
I've been playing really loose in the strange hold'em variety and really tight in the version with blinds. I limp for $1 a lot and make it $9 in the second. But I'm having trouble dealing with the non-positional aspects of the game...
Any help is appreciated.
